Gardner Zemke Company is a leading electrical contractor specializing in commercial, industrial, and [institutional/infrastructure/etc.] projects. We deliver high-quality electrical installations, upgrades, and maintenance services with a strong commitment to safety, innovation, and client satisfaction. As we continue to grow, we're seeking a dynamic Electrical Project Manager who can excel at running complex projects while actively contributing to business growth through new client acquisition and opportunity development.

Job Summary

The Electrical Project Manager is a key leadership role responsible for the full lifecycle execution of electrical construction projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. In addition to project oversight, this position plays a vital role in business development by identifying and pursuing new project opportunities, building client relationships, and collaborating closely with the estimating and proposals team to develop winning bids and expand our market presence.

This is an ideal opportunity for a proven project leader with strong technical electrical knowledge who is also entrepreneurial and enjoys contributing to company growth.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Execution (Primary Focus – 60-70%)

· Lead and manage multiple electrical projects simultaneously from pre-construction through closeout, including commercial, industrial, and/or specialty electrical work.

· Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, resource plans, budgets, and progress tracking using tools such as MS Project, VP Teams, Primavera, etc..

· Coordinate with field superintendents, foreman, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure smooth execution and resolve issues proactively.

· Monitor project costs, manage change orders, process RFIs/submittals, and ensure compliance with contract documents, codes (NEC), safety regulations (OSHA), and company standards.

· Conduct regular site visits, progress meetings, and quality inspections to maintain high standards and address risks or deviations early.

· Prepare and present regular project status reports, forecasts, and financial updates to senior leadership and clients.

· Oversee project closeout processes, including punch lists, as-built documentation, warranties, and final lien releases.

Business Development & Growth Activities (Important Secondary Focus – 30-40%)

· Actively identify and pursue new project opportunities through networking, client referrals, industry events, market research, and existing client expansion.

· Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective clients, general contractors, owners, architects, and engineers.

· Collaborate with the estimating department on bid strategies, scope reviews, value engineering, and proposal development for targeted projects.

· Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client presentations to showcase company capabilities and differentiate our services.

· Contribute to marketing efforts by providing project success stories, case studies, and technical input for proposals, qualifications packages, and company literature.

· Support the development of long-term client partnerships and strategic pursuits in key market sectors.

· Qualifications & Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

· 5+ years of progressive experience managing electrical construction projects (commercial/industrial preferred).

· Strong knowledge of electrical systems, National Electrical Code (NEC), construction methods, materials, and safety practices.

· Proven track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget.

· Experience or strong interest in business development, client relations, and proposal/estimating collaboration.

· Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and interface effectively with clients and stakeholders.

· Proficiency in project management software (e.g., VP Teams, Primavera, Microsoft Office Suite, scheduling tools).

· Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

· OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain); additional certifications (PMP, LEED, etc.) a plus.
