Full Job Description

Job Description:

Borsight Sheet Metal Modification Technicians must have extensive experience and a broad, aerospace-based background in aircraft modification and production. The primary activities include the design, fabrication, and installation of modification packages on Department of Defense and FAA certificated aircraft. Technicians will be utilized to install different types of fabricated parts using a multitude of different fasteners, specialized tools and equipment. Depending on individual core structural or sheet metal skills and experience, Technicians will also be utilized for wire harness production and mechanical assembly, or they will perform modifications, and repairs to fixed or rotary wing aircraft.

Technicians will be required to use specialized equipment, tools, and fixtures in accordance with appropriate federal aviation regulations, manufacturer's recommendations, industry technical manuals and standards as well as Government Technical Orders and Directives.

Technicians may be asked to direct and or train other personnel on procedures and processes related to Borsight programs and IR&D projects. Technicians may also be assigned other duties within other functional areas of Borsight Operations.

Qualifications:

Technicians must have a minimum of 4 years’ on-the-job aircraft structural, sheet metal and composite disciplines, to include machining, sheet metal, structural, and composites. Advanced structural, sheet metal, airframe training from a technical trade or military technical school is required. An Airframe license issued by the FAA with commensurate General or Military Aviation experience is highly desired.

Technicians must possess the ability and commensurate experience to read and comprehend structural, mechanical drawings, and specifications. A vast and thorough understanding and demonstration of mechanical aptitude and sheet metal use of tools which will be built upon to advance technicians in a highly complex career field. Technicians must also have familiarity with Quality Assurance (QA) and AS9100 methods, principles, inspections, auditing, and certification, as well as Borsight’s QA program of aircraft modification.

Technicians must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Essential Responsibilities:

· Follows daily operational direction from the Borsight Operations Manager and Team Leaders.

· Performs and trains other technicians on advanced and complex aircraft sheet metal and structural task, and repair functions, both on and off aircraft.

· Performs documentation of maintenance, modification, and repair activities.

· Performs in-facility production activities.

· Performs Fits, drills, trims, locates and or replaces longerons, bulkhead, former.

· Performs fabrication, manufacturing and assembly of a wide variety of aircraft mechanical components, as well as electrical harness.

· Performs advanced design, fabrication, installation, and experience to remove and replace aircraft pressure skins, re-skin components and or locate trim, drill, install new aircraft skins.

· Possess technique on Hi-loc, Jo-bolt, and solid rivet installation. Determine acceptable gauge and types.

· Perform in-depth tasks that include drill and reamer usage, extensive fastener installation and removal of Jo-bolts, Hi-Locs, 'E' rivets, Cherry Max, Solid rivets, Riv nuts etc.

· Determines oversize fasteners and their designees, i.e. Hi-Locs, HL63 vs HL 19.

· Possess skills to use specialized tools such as tapered reamers, core drills, drill guides, and roto-peening.

· Inspects completed work of other technicians to certify that maintenance actions meet standards, and that aircraft are ready for operation.

· Interprets USAF Technical Manuals, Publications and Directives, as well as maintenance manuals and FAA/manufacturer publications and directives to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged harnesses and components.

· Performs installation of aircraft avionic, electrical, or communication systems, sensors, and antennas.

· Ensures cost-effective and economical repair and support for all aircraft electrical, avionics, sheet metal and structural system repairs and modifications.

· Performs as a Contract Field Team member and team lead.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the ability to climb ladders, work on top of aircraft using a hanging harness, work in small spaces, stoop, bend, be on your feet for extended periods of time, and lift and/or carry items weighing more than 50 pounds.

Conditions of Employment:

All Borsight employees serve in positions that have access to Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), classified information, or are involved in national security, health or safety, or functions other than the foregoing require a high degree of trust and confidence. To that point, all Borsight employees are subject to random facility perimeter control efforts to deter and detect the introduction or removal of classified information from Borsight’s secured facility. This policy and conspicuous signage posted throughout Borsight’s facility serve as legal notice to all employees entering or exiting Borsight’s facility are subject to inspection.

All Borsight employees require a pre-employment drug screen and a background check and are also subject to random drug screening during the duration of their employment. Borsight’s Sheet Metal Modification Technicians serve in critical positions that require a USG security clearance.

For Sheet Metal Modification Technicians, swing shift is typically staffed through voluntary shift rotations, where technicians choose to work swing shift. This approach allows flexibility and can help technicians have some control over their schedule. If there are not enough volunteers to cover the swing shift, technicians may be assigned shift work based on tenure. In this case, Borsight uses a 30‑day rotating shift system. This means that after 30 days of swing shift, technicians rotate to day shift to ensure fair distribution of work hours.

Normal swing shift hours start daily between 2 PM and 4 PM and conclude between 12 AM and 2 AM Monday through Thursday. Borsight employees receive a 10% shift differential based on their base pay while working swing shift hours.

CONUS travel is required and can be directed for both short and long travel durations lasting 1-2 weeks multiple times a year.
