We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our collaborative clinical team. This position combines hands-on diagnostic pretesting, accurate patient documentation, and patient-service support in a busy, multi-doctor optometric practice.

We provide paid onboarding and training on our specific equipment, electronic health record system, and office workflows. This position is designed for someone who already has foundational clinical or specialty medical-office experience and wants to continue developing their eye-care skills.
Key Responsibilities
As an Optometric Technician, you will help prepare patients for their examinations and support an organized, efficient clinical experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Welcoming patients and explaining the pretesting process in a clear and reassuring manner
- Obtaining and accurately documenting the patient’s chief complaint, ocular and medical history, medications, allergies, and relevant symptoms
- Performing diagnostic pretesting, which may include:
- Visual acuity testing
- Lensometry
- Autorefraction
- Tonometry
- Retinal imaging
- Optical coherence tomography, or OCT
- Visual-field testing
- Reviewing charts for completeness and ensuring test results are available to the doctor
- Entering accurate patient information into the electronic health record system
- Preparing, cleaning, stocking, and organizing examination and testing areas
- Helping maintain an efficient patient flow throughout the day
- Communicating important patient information to doctors and other team members
- Assisting doctors and staff in a busy, multi-doctor optometric practice
- Providing patient-services and front-desk cross-coverage when needed
- Answering phones and scheduling patient appointments
- Verifying insurance coverage and patient eligibility
- Checking patients out, processing payments, and scheduling follow-up visits
- Supporting a professional, welcoming, and positive patient experience from arrival through checkout
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following experience requirements:
- At least one year of paid, direct experience as an optometric or ophthalmic technician, or
- At least two years of medical-assistant experience in an outpatient or specialty medical practice, preferably involving hands-on diagnostic testing
Candidates must also have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working directly with patients in a healthcare environment
- A basic understanding of clinical pretesting, patient histories, or medical documentation
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate charting
- Comfort using computers and learning electronic health record systems
- The ability to communicate professionally and compassionately with patients of all ages
- The ability to multitask and remain organized in a busy medical office
- The ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team
- Dependable availability for the required weekday and Saturday schedule
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are helpful but not required:
- CPO, CPOA, or CPOT certification
- Previous experience in an optometry or ophthalmology practice
- Experience with lensometry, autorefraction, tonometry, retinal imaging, OCT, or visual-field testing
- Experience providing contact-lens insertion and removal instruction
- Experience with insurance eligibility verification, scheduling, and patient checkout
- Experience working in a multi-doctor medical or optometric practice
Candidates with previous experience as an ophthalmic technician, ophthalmic assistant, paraoptometric, or specialty medical assistant are encouraged to apply.
Schedule
This is a part-time, in-person position.
Availability is needed for weekday coverage Monday through Friday, including:
- Thursday availability through 6:00 PM
- Every other Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- No Sundays
The exact weekly schedule will be discussed during the interview and coordinated according to practice coverage needs and the candidate’s availability.
Compensation
$21–$24 per hour, based on directly relevant experience, certification, and diagnostic-testing proficiency.
Candidates with direct optometric or ophthalmic experience, advanced testing skills, or CPOA/CPOT certification may be considered toward the top of the range.
