Assignment Overview

Shift: Evenings, 5x8hrs
Hours: 40 hrs/wk
Start Date: Aug 31, 2026
Length: 8 weeks

Description

American Traveler is hiring a Behavioral Health RN for an evening-shift inpatient psych position requiring at least 1 year of acute behavioral health experience and current PMAB and CPR certification.

Details

Work on an inpatient Behavioral Health unit within a short-term acute care teaching hospital
Evening shift, 5x8-hour shifts from 15:00 to 23:30
Patient ratio of 1:5
Required to work one weekend (Saturday/Sunday) every two weeks
No on-call requirements
May float between units based on facility needs and skill set
May be required to float to other Providence facilities in the region
Uses Epic for charting
No fee for parking

Requirements

Active OR RN license (Compact license must be in hand at time of submission)
Current BLS certification required
Must complete PMAB (Preventing and Managing Assaultive Behavior) training prior to starting on the unit
Minimum 1 year of inpatient acute care Behavioral Health RN experience required
Inpatient psychiatric experience preferred
Epic EMR experience required
Must be comfortable with hands-on care, use of seclusion and restraints, and milieu management
Prior travel nursing experience required
Must have a personal vehicle for this assignment
Two supervisory references required, covering 1 year of experience within the last 3 years

Additional Information

Provide direct psychiatric nursing care including medication administration for anxiety, depression, mood, and psychotic disorders
Manage patients with a range of behavioral health conditions including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, PTSD, substance use, and suicidal or self-injurious behavior
Apply crisis intervention, de-escalation, and behavior management techniques as needed
Utilize seclusion protocols and physical hold procedures when necessary
Work within a locked inpatient unit setting
Scrubs of any color are acceptable for this unit
Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel rate; local candidates accepted at a lower bill rate
Former Providence employees may return as travelers after a 3-month waiting period, provided they reside more than 50 miles from the facility
All requested time off must be submitted upfront during the application process, as post-offer time off requests may not be accommodated
