Lead Carpenter - New Modular Construction – Southeastern MA
Backyard ADUs is looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter for their growing business. This is a Full Time, Mon-Fri position, 40 hours of work time during construction hours (6:30am to 6:30pm). This can be 4 long days, or 5 regular days, or even more flexible some weeks. Must be willing to do some overnights in the New England area.
This role is client-facing, and ideal for a skilled professional who can work independently and alongside subcontractors to deliver high-quality construction projects. The Lead Carpenter is responsible for maintaining a safe job site, performing a variety of carpentry tasks, and ensuring exceptional workmanship while working with minimal supervision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Site Leadership Duties -
- Maintain strong relationships with customers and be the carpentry face of Backyard ADUs
- Meet with inspectors
- Redirect subs as needed and approve finish qualities
- Work alongside subcontractors to ensure a high level of quality is met, and schedules are maintained
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to determine project specifications
- Extensive photos/video documentation for project records
- Maintain the final punch list in the final weeks of a project
Construction Duties -
- Complete punch list activities effectively
- Install different types of exterior siding including, but not limited to, vinyl, LP, or Hardie
- Install exterior trim details
- Install roofing to industry-recommended standards
- Perform air sealing activities including, but not limited to, caulking, taping, and spray foam
- Install floating shelves, cabinetry, and other upgraded interior features
- Install/finish porticos, decks, and screen porches
- Construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, and wallboard
- Hang doors accurately and ensure proper alignment and functionality
- Install and/or repair drywall efficiently while ensuring a smooth finish
- Hardwood, vinyl, and tile flooring installation, ensuring durability and aesthetic appeal
- Tile backsplash installation and grouting
- Basic site work and landscaping (punch list level only)
- Maintain the project site and property in a neat and orderly fashion; provide adequate dust protection; broom clean site daily, remove debris promptly; secure the site daily
- Protect any items that will be reused or cannot be removed from the construction area from damage and dust, such as cabinets, shelving, landscape, large furniture pieces, etc.
- Keep tools, equipment, and materials neat, organized and consolidated at the end of each day.
- Accurately report task status on Google Workspace platforms (Sheets, Docs, Keep, Drive)
Qualifications
· Proven experience as a Carpenter with a strong portfolio of completed projects
· 10+ years of carpentry experience
· Experience working with subcontractors
· Strong knowledge of hand tools and their proper usage
· Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to quality craftsmanship
· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure
· Ability to lift heavy materials when necessary
· Willing and able to do overnights within New England (example, overnights for project in WellFleet)
· Massachusetts CSL preferred, or ability to obtain, but not required.
· Neat appearance
· Maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Must be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)
