Project Coordinator

Area of Job Responsibilities: Community and Economic Development

Summary:

Project Coordinator for Community and Economic Development is a professional position and responsible for assisting in creating community and economic development projects, grant writing, grant administration, and redevelopment programs for communities across East Alabama and implements strategies to attract, recruit, and retain industry. This position is primarily responsible for researching and writing grants for the EARPDC, member governments, and participating 501 (c) (3) organizations, and other duties as assigned. This position is under the direction of the Director of Planning and Development.

Work Responsibilities:

· Research potential grant resources and grant information for EARPDC.

· Writes and edits grants for EARPDC.

· Researches and writes grants for member governments.

· Administers grants for communities, including meeting contractual reporting requirements.

· Attends grant writing conferences and workshops.

· Meets with member governments and 501 (c) (3) organizations. Assists with their grant writing projects.

· Assists the Director of Planning and Development in administering grant programs and evaluating their impact.

· Research and reports on policies and procedures about economic development. Assists clients to comply with state and federal policies, procedures, and regulations.

· Maintains knowledge of principles and practices of economic and community development, redevelopment and reuse, business retention, and recruitment programs, marketing and advertising, real estate, development/redevelopment financing alternatives, and annexation procedures. General knowledge of zoning, comprehensive planning, and site development.

· Analyses and systematically compiles technical and statistical information for preparing grants, technical reports, proposals, and correspondence.

· Prepares project proposals and updates demographic and site information; maintains current data regarding the community for member governments and 501 (c) (3) organizations.

· Serves as point of contact for member governments and participating nonprofit organizations.

· Performs other work related to Commission's overall program responsibilities, as assigned by the Director of Planning and Development.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Knowledge in applying policies, procedures, and standards about the municipal planning process and interpreting maps, graphs, and statistical data.

· Ability to comprehend and understand local, state, and federal programs and incentives benefiting economic development initiatives and projects.

· Ability to work in a team environment and establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with city officials and employees, the public, and representatives of other agencies toward accomplishing assigned projects.

· Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and maintain composure in challenging and stressful situations.

· Ability to solve problems and deal with variables where little or no standardization exists, interpret multiple information and instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

· Communication Proficiency. Both written and oral.

· Strong interpersonal skills. Proficient in the ability to present ideas and technical material clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to gain the trust and cooperation of others to communicate concepts and ideas effectively.

· Computer skills to perform word processing and spreadsheet analysis, use databases and software, use e-mail, and access the internet.

· Experience with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

· Excellent organization skills.

· Strong time management skills. Ability to meet deadlines.

· Experience with researching and writing grants.

· Excellent customer service skills.

· Superior writing and editing skills.

· Ability to drive an automobile, possession of a valid driver’s license, and ability to meet the criteria for authorization to drive Commission vehicles, as established by the Commission’s motor vehicle insurance carrier.

· Must be able to pass pre-employment background checks and meet all pre-employment requirements.

Desirable Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in public administration or another relevant field. At least 1-3 years of job-related experience, preferably in economic and community development or grant writing.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Work Environment: Office Setting
