Full Job Description

The Axel Group is seeking an experienced Facilities Maintenance Manager – Mechanical Systems to join our client's team. This is a direct-hire, on-site leadership opportunity for a hands-on facilities and mechanical professional who will oversee building maintenance operations, lead a team of skilled technicians, and ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of critical mechanical and HVAC systems.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial HVAC, mechanical systems, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and technician leadership. This individual will play an important role in maintaining the performance and reliability of major building systems, coordinating internal technicians and outside contractors, and identifying opportunities to improve equipment efficiency and overall facility operations.

This position is well suited for an experienced Facilities Manager, Maintenance Manager, Chief Engineer, Building Engineer, HVAC Manager, or HVAC Service Manager who is looking to take ownership of mechanical maintenance operations while continuing to utilize their technical expertise.

Responsibilities

Supervise, lead, and support a team of Facilities Maintenance/HVAC Technicians while coordinating daily schedules, service requests, and department priorities
Oversee day-to-day maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair activities for building mechanical systems
Diagnose, repair, and maintain major HVAC and mechanical equipment including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and RTU systems
Install, replace, and maintain pumps, pneumatic valves, electric valves, WSHPs, ERUs, RTUs, and other mechanical equipment
Perform and oversee preventative maintenance on major mechanical and HVAC systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation
Diagnose equipment malfunctions and identify operating efficiency issues or potential failures before they become larger problems
Monitor building mechanical systems and proactively address maintenance requirements
Coordinate mechanical projects, repairs, and service work with outside contractors and vendors
Obtain, order, and secure necessary parts, materials, and equipment to support maintenance and repair activities
Review completed work to ensure repairs and maintenance are performed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards
Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations, company policies, and established work practices
Maintain accurate service records, work orders, time entries, maintenance documentation, and other required system information
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development to technicians
Train and mentor technicians on equipment operation, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, safety procedures, and proper work practices
Assist with developing and improving preventative maintenance programs and department procedures
Analyze department processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service response, equipment reliability, and overall facility operations
Serve as a technical resource for the maintenance team and assist with complex troubleshooting and repair situations as needed

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred
8–10+ years of related facilities, mechanical, or commercial HVAC experience
Previous experience leading, supervising, training, or mentoring maintenance/HVAC technicians
CFC Certification required
Strong hands-on experience with boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and RTU systems
Strong knowledge of ATC systems, HVAC controls, and energy management software
Experience troubleshooting and maintaining commercial mechanical systems
Strong understanding of preventative maintenance practices and equipment reliability
Ability to coordinate work with outside contractors, vendors, and service providers
Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong commitment to safety, documentation, quality workmanship, and customer service
Ability to work in a hands-on leadership capacity while effectively managing a team and department operations

Compensation

Salary: $80,000–$95,000 annually
