JOB DESCRIPTION

(Non-Supervisory)

Job Title: Attendant

Pay Grade: UG02 Effective Date: March 2026

FLSA: Regular Non-Exempt/Union Represented Revision Date: n/a

NATURE OF WORK:

This position is responsible for operating the community collection centers including assisting customers with proper waste disposal procedures and maintaining a clean and safe environment. This position involves monitoring the incoming loads, providing directions to the public on where to dispose of materials, and performing general site cleanup and maintenance

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Remotely supervised, employees are responsible for opening and closing center independently according to set schedule.
Directs safe traffic flow of all vehicles entering/exiting the collection centers to the proper areas to unload all forms of MSW such as green yard waste, E-waste drop off, scrap metal and

Household Hazardous material.

Employee assesses residential loads and applies fees/punch cards accordingly.
Performs vehicle load inspections and monitors incoming loads for unacceptable/prohibited materials.
Maintains written records and logs of vehicles disposing of waste at an assigned Community Collection Center.
Compacts trash, visually inspects and separates material to be dumped in compliance with hazardous disposal ordinances and to minimize illegal dumping of hazardous materials and other household waste using inappropriate containers.
May operates a variety of light and heavy equipment at the community collection centers.
Responsible for knowing and abiding by all SCSWA policies and procedures.
Performs other job-related duties as assignee abiding by all Authority policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
One (1) year of full-time experience performing landfill or construction manual labor duties.
Basic computer and recordkeeping skills.

Licenses/Certification(s):

A valid driver’s license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance

with South Central Solid Waste Authority policy.

No DUI or DWI convictions within the past twenty-four (24) months.
No moving violations within the past twelve (12) months.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Workplace safety and customer service best practices.

Computer and mobile device application data entry and use.

Perform repetitive, short-cycle tasks while maintaining attention to detail.

Communicate with staff and the public respectfully and professionally.

Read and write basic instructions and record keeping.

Ability to follow safety rules and enforce site policies.

Must have general knowledge of laws, regulations and ordinances affecting the environmental processes.

Must have the ability to interact with public in order to assure compliance with regulations, establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL FACTORS

Work is performed both inside a scale house office and outdoors on community collection center grounds. Exposure to dust, noise, odors, and changing weather conditions.

Requires walking around the site and occasional lifting of light debris.

The employee must have the ability to frequently move or reposition up to 50lbs of materials or objects.

WORK SITUATION FACTORS:

Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and the Authority’s policies.
