Mental Health Specialists is seeking a licensed clinician to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team serving adults with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. This salaried position offers meaningful clinical work, multidisciplinary collaboration, no productivity quotas, and the opportunity to make a profound difference in the lives of individuals who need intensive community-based support.
ACT serves individuals who frequently experience psychiatric hospitalization, homelessness, incarceration, repeated crises, or difficulty engaging in traditional outpatient treatment. Rather than expecting clients to come to us, our team brings treatment directly into the community, helping individuals remain safe, stable, and successful in their own homes and communities.

About Mental Health Specialists
Mental Health Specialists is one of the largest outpatient behavioral health organizations in Southeastern Idaho. Our integrated treatment model combines psychiatry, medication management, counseling, psychological testing, community-based rehabilitation services, respite services, case management, peer support, and Assertive Community Treatment.

About the ACT Team
This position is part of our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, an evidence-based, multidisciplinary program serving individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
Our ACT team provides:
- Community-based treatment and support
- Individual and family therapy
- Substance use treatment
- Crisis assessment and intervention
- Psychiatric rehabilitation
- Service coordination
- Skills training
- Housing and community support services
- Vocational and educational support
- 24/7 crisis response coverage
As a member of the ACT team, you will work alongside prescribers, nurses, therapists, peer specialists, case managers, and rehabilitation specialists to deliver comprehensive, person-centered care.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct mental health assessments and treatment planning
- Provide individual, family, and group therapy
- Deliver evidence-based psychotherapy in both office and community settings
- Assist clients in achieving goals identified in their person-centered plans
- Provide substance use disorder treatment and recovery support
- Participate in crisis assessment and intervention
- Collaborate closely with families, natural supports, and community partners
- Provide clinical consultation and guidance to the treatment team
- Assist with psychiatric rehabilitation and community integration activities
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Participate in after-hours crisis response rotation as assigned
- Assist with all ACT team service delivery as needed
Clinical Approach
Successful candidates should be comfortable providing services in both traditional and nontraditional settings. Therapy may occur in homes, community settings, workplaces, restaurants, parks, hospitals, shelters, or wherever clients need support.
The ideal clinician understands that recovery often occurs outside the therapy office and is comfortable blending psychotherapy, rehabilitation, advocacy, crisis intervention, and practical support into a unified treatment approach.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related clinical field
- Clinical licensure or eligibility for independent clinical practice
- Experience providing mental health services
- Valid driver's license and ability to provide community-based services
Preferred:
- Experience working with individuals with serious persistent mental illness (SPMI)
- Experience treating co-occurring substance use disorders
- Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery-oriented care
- Experience with community-based treatment programs
- ACT team experience
Clinical Skills
Applicants should have experience or familiarity with evidence-based practices including:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- CBT for Psychosis
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Harm Reduction approaches
- Trauma-Informed Care
- Recovery-Oriented Treatment
