Full Job Description

Project Accountant

Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL (Onsite)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Position Summary

Seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our Corporate Headquarters team in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This onsite position plays a critical role in supporting the financial and operational success of construction projects through project cost controls, billing administration, accounts receivable management, and corporate process improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines strong accounting expertise with project controls experience, enabling effective oversight of project financial performance, invoicing, collections, reporting, and operational compliance. This role will serve as a key liaison between Corporate Finance and Project Operations while providing training, standardization, and support across multiple business units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Accounting & Controls

Monitor and analyze project costs, performance metrics, and financial outcomes to ensure alignment with project budgets and forecasts.
Track project expenditures, identify cost variances, and provide recommendations for corrective action.
Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules and monitor progress against established timelines.
Support project managers by analyzing financial data and updating project forecasts as project conditions change.
Identify, assess, and communicate project risks that may impact cost, schedule, or profitability.
Prepare and distribute project financial reports, dashboards, and performance analyses for management review.
Analyze project data to identify trends, improve forecasting accuracy, and support informed decision-making.
Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Operations leaders to ensure project goals and financial objectives are achieved.
Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual requirements, and project control procedures.

Billing Administration

Manage and coordinate billing activities for Operations and transitional corporate initiatives.
Ensure all billing activities are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

Training, Leadership & Process Improvement

Serve as a corporate resource and liaison for Project Managers and billing/accounts receivable teams.
Provide day-to-day support and guidance on project accounting, billing, and collection processes.
Lead training initiatives for billing and accounts receivable functions across the organization.
Support implementation of corporate financial initiatives, systems enhancements, and process improvements.
Develop, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training guides, and process documentation.
Promote best practices and consistency across all project accounting functions.

Compliance & Audit Support

Collaborate with external auditors and internal stakeholders during audits and financial reviews.
Assist with financial reporting requirements and audit documentation requests.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field required.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in project accounting, construction accounting, project controls, accounts receivable, billing, or a related discipline.
Experience within the construction, specialty contracting, or related industry is strongly preferred.
Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, project financial management, billing, and collections processes.
Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems; experience with Viewpoint Vista strongly preferred.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial reporting and data analysis.
Knowledge of project scheduling, forecasting, budgeting, and cost control methodologies.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial and operational data.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across all organizational levels.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and support cross-functional teams.
Commitment to continuous improvement, process standardization, and operational excellence.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
