About the Role
We're hiring an experienced cabinet maker for our in-house cabinet shop in Kingston, NY. This is shop-based custom cabinet construction — not furniture making, rough carpentry, or installation. Every cabinet is built to order for a specific home from CAD-generated shop drawings; we don't touch stock or RTA cabinetry of any kind. You'll build inset, framed, and frameless cabinetry in cabinet-grade plywood, hardwoods, MDF, and veneered sheet goods, using Blum euro-style hardware. Our shop produces its own custom line in-house, complemented by semi-custom and fully custom lines from Omega, Miralis, Plain and Fancy, and Craft-Maid.
Our shop is set up to do something most shops can't: high-quality custom output with repeatable, process-driven workflows. We're not chaotic one-off custom, and we're not a big-box production grind. You'd join our existing shop team and learn our system — our methods, tolerances, and joinery details. Onboarding is about getting an already-skilled maker up to speed on how we build, not teaching the trade. For someone who wants steady work on quality projects with a team that takes craft seriously, this is a long-term seat — not a stopgap.
About Cabinet Designers
Cabinet Designers is a family-owned design firm based in Kingston, NY, where we’ve worked with homeowners across the Hudson Valley — Kingston, Woodstock, Rhinebeck, Stone Ridge, and beyond — for nearly four decades. What’s kept us here this long isn’t an accident. We’ve built a small, close-knit team, and several of our designers and craftspeople have been with the company for more than 20 years — a level of continuity that’s almost unheard of in this trade. The work meets high standards, the relationships are built to last, and the people who join us tend to stay. You’d join our current cabinet maker on the shop team, supported by 3 installers, a helper, 5 designers, and a dedicated project manager. If you take pride in craft, work cleanly and accurately, and want a place where steady work and steady relationships matter, you’ll fit in here.
What you'd do
- Build cabinet boxes, face frames, drawer boxes, and panels to established shop standards
- Read and execute CAD shop drawings and cut lists for efficient, repeatable production
- Assemble using cabinet-specific joinery (glue, clamps, fasteners, mechanical hardware)
- Install euro-style hinges, drawer slides, and internal accessories (Blum, Grass, Richelieu, Häfele, Kessebohmer, Rev-A-Shelf, etc.)
- Run professional shop machinery: sliding table saw, planers, jointers, sanders, routers, drill press
- Hold consistent quality across multiple builds and keep a clean, organized, safe shop
What we're looking for
- 3+ years building residential custom or semi-custom cabinetry in a cabinet or millwork shop (5+ preferred)
- Comfortable reading and building from CAD / shop drawings without hand-holding
- Solid working knowledge of cabinet materials, hardware systems, and tolerances
- Able to lift 75 lbs and work a full day in a physical shop environment
- Takes pride in clean, accurate work
Inset, framed/frameless, and Blum experience is a plus — if you can build well and work to a drawing, we want to talk.
Why people stay
- Year-round pipeline — a consistent queue of projects, no slow seasons, no layoffs between builds
- All tools and machinery provided — no need to bring your own kit; CAD drawings prepared by our in-house design team
- Established firm — 6,000 sq ft showroom and 3,000 sq ft millwork shop, 39 years in business
- Tenured, supportive team — designers, installers, a dedicated project manager, and fellow shop staff, most with 5–20+ years at the firm
