ACCOUNTING & TAX ASSISTANT for SMALL BUSINESS PRACTICE IN RALEIGH, NC

OPPORTUNITY:

Are you a recent college graduate with a 4-year Accounting degree looking for a full-time position/experience in a small business-oriented accounting practice?
Do you enjoy working with numbers and solving puzzles?
Are you an organized, "plan ahead" type of person who gets into the details?
Are you a custom-service oriented individual who enjoys interacting with clients/guests?

We are a local accounting and tax practice that will provide a recent accounting graduate with on-the-job training and the opportunity to work alongside our experienced 8-person team as they embark on their accounting career.

For 28 years, Carolina Accounting & Tax Solutions has provided small and medium-sized Triangle businesses with tax planning, preparation and representation, accounting and financial reporting services, business consulting as well as payroll, bookkeeping and Quickbooks software support.

ACCOUNTING & TAX ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES: This staff member is our first line of direct contact with our small business clients. Responsibilities include:

tax season back office management including scheduling client tax appointments, preparing client documents for processing, securing electronic document signatures and e-filing tax returns
helping manage secure client portals and maintain electronic data files
maintaining the client practice management database and running reports
data entry and general bookkeeping in Quickbooks (QBO and desktop) and other accounting industry software to assist bookkeepers with monthly financial statement production
Assisting with monthly and quarterly compliance reporting to include payroll, sales and use returns, local tax returns
Assisting with annual compliance filings for W2s, 1099s, property tax listings

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Economics from an accredited institution (not a Finance nor a Business Administration degree)
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to interact directly with small business owners
Enjoys working with numbers and is technologically savvy with computers (Microsoft Office 365 - Excel, Word, Teams and Outlook)
Must be detailed oriented with strong problem solving skills
Previous work experience in an accounting practice as an intern, as a bookkeeper and/or experience with Quickbooks (online or desktop versions) and/or payroll processing experience (ADP, Paychex or Paycor) is beneficial, but not required.

COMPENSATION: $20-$22/hour and bonus eligible

SCHEDULE AND LOCATION: This is an on-site/in-office role with a Monday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm schedule. Extra hours/Saturday work is mandatory in January due to busy season, and this is offset with summer hours (the office closes at 1 p.m. on Fridays from 4th of July to Labor Day.) Our office has a business casual dress code. We would anticipate a September 2026 start date for this position.

BENEFITS: Our small office environment in the Raleigh (North Hills area) is ideal opportunity for a recent college graduate to join a small accounting and tax practice, with on-the-job training and opportunities for advancement within the practice.

Employee benefits include paid vacation, paid sick leave, 10 paid holidays, retirement plan, access to AFLAC supplemental insurance, flexible work schedule and flexible benefit spending allowance (to offset individual purchase of medical/dental/vision insurance.) The firm will pay for advanced training and certifications relevant to the individuals position (for example: Quickbooks Pro Certified Advisor credentials, Certified Professional Bookkeeper designation, etc.)
