Position Summary
The Head of Client Accounting Services is responsible for the strategic leadership, growth, and operational excellence of the firm's Client Accounting Services (CAS) and Fractional CFO (vCFO) service lines.
This position serves as the senior financial and operational leader over all client-facing accounting and CFO advisory services. The role is responsible for ensuring exceptional client outcomes, developing team members, expanding service offerings, improving operational efficiency, and providing strategic financial leadership to clients.
The Head of Client Accounting Services must be capable of performing all responsibilities associated with the Accountant, Lead Accountant, Accounting Manager, and Fractional CFO roles. This leader serves as the highest level technical accounting and financial advisory resource within the organization and is expected to step into client engagements, mentor team members, resolve complex issues, and provide executive-level business guidance as needed.
The ideal candidate possesses deep accounting expertise, strong business acumen, leadership experience, and a proven ability to help clients improve profitability, cash flow, operational performance, and long-term enterprise value.
This is a full-time salaried leadership position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Client Accounting Services Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all Client Accounting Services (CAS) engagements.
- Establish department goals, service standards, quality controls, and operational metrics.
- Ensure accounting deliverables are accurate, timely, consistent, and aligned with company standards.
- Monitor client service delivery and ensure client satisfaction across all engagements.
- Develop and refine service offerings to support client growth and company scalability.
- Lead complex client engagements and serve as the escalation point for accounting, operational, and financial challenges.
- Ensure adherence to GAAP, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Drive standardization, process improvement, automation, and efficiency throughout the accounting function.
- Identify opportunities to expand services and deepen client relationships.
CFO Advisory Services
- Serve as a Fractional CFO for assigned clients.
- Lead monthly and quarterly executive financial reviews with ownership teams and leadership groups.
- Translate financial information into actionable business insights and strategic recommendations.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and scorecards.
- Build and review budgets, forecasts, financial models, and cash flow projections.
- Provide guidance regarding profitability, growth strategies, pricing models, service delivery performance, and resource planning.
- Advise clients on financial decision-making, operational efficiency, and business performance improvement.
- Assist clients with strategic planning, annual planning, and long-term financial roadmaps.
- Guide clients through acquisitions, major business decisions, financing initiatives, and growth objectives when applicable.
- Help clients understand the financial impact of operational decisions and business investments.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop Accounting Managers, Lead Accountants, Accountants, and CFO Advisors.
- Create a culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional development.
- Serve as the primary resource for complex accounting matters, financial strategy, and client advisory challenges.
- Review and provide guidance on client engagements requiring elevated technical accounting expertise.
- Conduct leadership coaching and career development planning for team members.
- Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, retention, and succession planning initiatives.
- Establish and monitor performance expectations and accountability measures.
- Ensure workloads are appropriately balanced and aligned with organizational priorities.
- Foster a positive, client-focused, and high-performing team environment.
Strategic Leadership & Business Development
- Partner with company leadership to establish and execute strategic objectives.
- Drive growth and profitability of the Client Accounting Services division.
- Evaluate service delivery models and identify opportunities to improve scalability and efficiency.
- Develop new service offerings that increase client value and strengthen market position.
- Participate in sales presentations, client onboarding, and business development activities.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, prospects, and strategic partners.
- Monitor industry trends, technology solutions, and best practices that impact clients and service delivery.
- Support organizational planning, budgeting, forecasting, and operational decision-making.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting, finance, advisory, or leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading accounting teams and client service organizations.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting operations.
- Experience serving as a Fractional CFO, CFO, Controller, Accounting Director, CAS Director, or equivalent leadership role.
- Experience developing budgets, forecasts, cash flow models, and financial strategies.
- Proven ability to translate financial information into actionable business recommendations.
- Strong coaching, mentoring, and leadership skills.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple clients, priorities, and strategic initiatives simultaneously.
- Ability to perform and oversee all responsibilities associated with the Accountant, Lead Accountant, Accounting Manager, and Fractional CFO roles.
Preferred
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Experience working in a Client Accounting Services (CAS), outsourced accounting, public accounting, consulting, or advisory environment.
- Experience supporting Managed Service Provider (MSP) clients.
- Experience with ConnectWise Manage, Autotask, HaloPSA, or similar PSA tools.
- Experience with SLI, Xero, QuickBooks Online, and accounting automation platforms.
- Experience leading remote teams.
- Experience with recurring revenue business models and service-based organizations.
- MBA or other advanced business or financial credential.
- Experience developing and scaling advisory service offerings.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000 per year, depending on experience, leadership background, industry expertise, advisory experience, and professional credentials.
This is a salaried exempt position and is not eligible for overtime.

Additional Requirements
- This is a full-time, remote position.
- Candidates must be available and actively working during normal business hours.
- Travel may be required periodically for client meetings, strategic planning sessions, team events, and business development activities.
- Outside employment that interferes with scheduled work hours or responsibilities is not permitted.
