Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Director of Payroll to lead high-volume payroll operations in a fast-paced, client-focused environment. This role is responsible for scaling payroll delivery through strong leadership, deep technical expertise, and advanced use of the UKG Ready platform.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring direct involvement in payroll processing, system configuration, and complex issue resolution. The ideal candidate brings experience in a payroll services or bureau environment and is comfortable operating in a client-facing, high-touch delivery model.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Operations & Compliance

Lead multi-state, high-volume payroll processing for enterprise-level clients
Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness across all payroll cycles
Oversee payroll tax setup, corrections, reconciliations, and reporting
Manage year-end processes including W-2s and ACA reporting
Oversee payroll funding, ACH processing, and related best practices

UKG Ready Platform Leadership

Act as the subject matter expert for UKG Ready payroll operations
Oversee system configuration, workflows, controls, and integrations
Partner cross-functionally to optimize system performance and scalability
Lead training and development to strengthen team capabilities in UKG Ready

Team Leadership & Development

Build and develop a high-performing payroll team
Establish training programs, documentation standards, and quality controls
Mentor team members to strengthen technical expertise and leadership skills

Client & Escalation Management

Support enterprise client relationships in a high-touch service environment
Act as escalation point for complex payroll issues
Provide expert guidance in client-facing conversations

Strategic Leadership

Partner with cross-functional teams to improve operations and support growth
Use data and reporting to drive decision-making and performance

Qualifications

8+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience
Experience in a payroll service, bureau, or client delivery environment REQUIRED
Advanced, hands-on experience with UKG Ready REQUIRED
Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, taxation, and reconciliations
Experience managing high-volume, multi-state payrolls
Experience with year-end processing (W-2, ACA, etc.)
Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills
