SENIOR INTERIOR DESIGNER
Full-Time | In Person | Redlands, California
We’re Growing
Pepper & Olive Interiors is growing, and we’re looking for a full-time Senior Interior Designer to join our team.
We believe great design is about more than creating beautiful spaces. It’s about thoughtful details, smart solutions, strong relationships, and making an inherently complicated process feel considered and well cared for from beginning to end.
We’re not interested in being an ordinary design studio.
Our work is rooted in refined processes, consistent communication, creative problem-solving, and an elevated level of service. We design residential and commercial spaces throughout Southern California, balancing beauty with function and big-picture vision with the smallest details.
Behind it all is a collaborative team of independent thinkers who are kind, curious, accountable, and willing to jump in wherever needed. We take ownership of our work, communicate openly, stay nimble when projects inevitably throw us a curveball, and believe there is always room to learn and get better.
And while we take our work seriously, we don't believe we have to take ourselves too seriously.
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced designer with a strong point of view, a sharp eye, and a get-it-done attitude - someone who can confidently lead a project while also understanding that great design is a team sport.
You notice the details other people miss. You’re comfortable making decisions and solving problems without waiting to be told what comes next. You understand how to move between creative vision and technical execution, and you know that how a client experiences the design process matters just as much as the final reveal.
Under the direction of our Principal Designer, the Lead Designer will independently manage residential and commercial projects from concept through completion while collaborating closely with our internal team, contractors, architects, consultants, fabricators, and vendors.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can zoom out to see the entire project and zoom all the way in when the ⅛-inch detail matters.
Duties + Responsibilities
- Independently manage multiple residential and commercial design projects from concept through completion
- Lead design development, including space planning, material selections, FF&E sourcing, and 3D modeling
- Produce and manage drawing sets, redlines, elevations, details, and construction documentation
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, contractors, fabricators, vendors, and other project partners
- Collaborate closely with the Principal Designer and internal design team to interpret and execute the overall design vision
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and trades to ensure a cohesive project from design through construction
- Oversee procurement in collaboration with our Studio Operations Coordinator, ensuring selections, specifications, lead times, and project requirements are clearly communicated
- Conduct site visits and support construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, field questions, installation coordination, and design-related problem solving
- Lead client meetings and confidently present design concepts, materials, selections, budgets, and revisions
- Manage project timelines, budgets, priorities, and deliverables to keep projects moving forward
- Anticipate challenges, identify solutions, and take ownership of next steps rather than waiting for direction
- Maintain the level of organization, communication, and client care that defines the Pepper & Olive experience
What You Bring
You’re someone who pairs creativity with follow-through.
You have a sharp eye and a strong design point of view, but you also understand that beautiful ideas need to be buildable, functional, and appropriate for the client and their budget.
You’re confident making decisions and equally comfortable asking the right questions when you need more information.
You’re curious and proactive. You don’t wait to be told what’s next—you anticipate it.
Most importantly, you understand that we are in the business of both design and service. You genuinely care about the experience our clients have while working with us and bring warmth, professionalism, and thoughtfulness to every interaction.
Desired Skills + Experience
- 4+ years of professional interior design experience in residential and/or commercial design
- Degree in Interior Design or a related field preferred
- Strong proficiency in SketchUp
- Proficiency in LayOut and the ability to translate design concepts into clear, accurate drawing sets
- Solid understanding of construction documentation, detailing, and the residential construction process
- Experience sourcing FF&E from to-the-trade vendors across a broad range of budgets and aesthetic genres
- Familiarity with procurement processes, specifications, lead times, and vendor coordination
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional organization and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Ability to balance creative vision with technical execution and budget realities
- Experience working directly with clients and confidently leading presentations and meetings
- Comfortable working independently while remaining highly collaborative with the larger team
- Ability to receive feedback, pivot when necessary, and keep moving forward when projects don’t go exactly according to plan
