Outreach Specialist

Organization: Restoration Recovery Center
Location: Fitchburg, Massachusetts

Position Details

Status: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
Compensation: $24.00–$26.00 per hour, based on experience
Travel: Local travel throughout the service area is required.
Mileage Reimbursement: Provided in accordance with agency policy.
Professional Development: Ongoing training, certification, and career development opportunities are provided and encouraged.

Position Summary

The Outreach Specialist serves as a vital member of Restoration Recovery Center's outreach team by identifying, engaging, and supporting individuals who may be at risk for substance use disorder, mental health challenges, homelessness, or other barriers to wellness. Through grassroots community outreach, the Outreach Specialist builds trusting relationships with individuals who may not otherwise access services and helps connect them to timely screenings, assessments, treatment, recovery supports, and community resources.

This position combines proactive community outreach with peer recovery coaching to provide person-centered, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented support. The Outreach Specialist acts as a bridge between vulnerable community members and the systems of care designed to promote long-term recovery, stability, health, and wellness.

Essential Responsibilities

Community Outreach & Engagement

Conduct grassroots outreach throughout Fitchburg and surrounding communities to identify and engage individuals who may benefit from recovery support and behavioral health services.
Build trusting relationships with individuals experiencing substance use disorders, mental health concerns, homelessness, justice involvement, or other life challenges.
Participate in outreach events, community partnerships, health fairs, and neighborhood engagement activities.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with local providers, first responders, healthcare organizations, shelters, faith communities, and other referral partners.
Represent Restoration Recovery Center professionally within the community while promoting recovery and reducing stigma.

Screening, Assessment & Linkage

Connect individuals to timely screenings and assessments based on identified needs.
Assist participants with referrals to substance use treatment, mental health services, recovery supports, housing, employment resources, healthcare, transportation, and other community-based services.
Follow up with participants to help reduce barriers to engagement and encourage successful connection to recommended services.
Advocate on behalf of participants while empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their recovery.

Documentation & Communication

Complete timely, accurate, and comprehensive documentation in accordance with agency policies and grant requirements.
Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.
Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members regarding participant needs, outreach efforts, referrals, and outcomes.
Assist with collecting outreach and program data to support grant reporting and performance outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Lived experience in recovery strongly preferred.
Certified Recovery Coach (CRC) preferred.
Candidates not certified at the time of hire must obtain Recovery Coach certification within six (6) months of employment. Restoration Recovery Center will provide and fund all required training.
Experience working with individuals affected by substance use, behavioral health challenges, homelessness, or other vulnerable populations preferred.
Excellent communication, engagement, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently in community-based settings while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
Valid Massachusetts driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel throughout the service area.
Ability to successfully complete all required background checks.

Physical Requirements

Ability to travel throughout the community daily.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and participate in outreach activities for extended periods.
Ability to occasionally lift and transport outreach materials and supplies.
Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends based on outreach events and community needs.
