Geological Technician

Job Summary
Walker Lane Mining Company LLC is seeking a motivated, safety-focused Geological Technician to support geological, exploration, and mine operations at our Fallon, Nevada mine site.
This is a hands-on field position that does not require a college degree. The Geological Technician will work closely with geologists, mine engineering, survey, operations, and laboratory personnel to support drill core handling, geological sampling, data collection, sample preparation, ore-control activities, and accurate geological recordkeeping.

Key Responsibilities
· Receive or retrieve core boxes from drill sites and properly wash and prepare drill core for geological logging.
· Collect, label, document, and prepare geological and ore samples according to established procedures.
· Assist with drill pad preparation by directing equipment operators to planned drill locations and designated sump construction areas.
· Prepare core samples for shipment to the laboratory after core cutting is completed by the geologist.
· Conduct core photography, accurately document drill-hole images, and save files to designated company drives.
· Conduct specific gravity measurements on newly received drill core.
· Assist geologists with field mapping, sampling, and geological data collection.
· Support pit, stockpile, and ore-control sampling activities.
· Assist with logging rock samples, cuttings, drill samples, and other geological materials.
· Accurately record sample locations, geological observations, and field data.
· Prepare, organize, package, and track samples submitted for laboratory analysis.
· Maintain accurate sample identification and chain-of-custody documentation.
· Enter geological and assay information into spreadsheets, databases, and mine data systems.
· Maintain geological maps, sample records, drill-hole information, and technical documentation.
· Support ore-control activities by assisting with the identification and tracking of ore and waste material.
· Assist with GPS and field-location activities.
· Maintain organized core, sample, and geological storage areas.
· Communicate field observations and potential concerns to the appropriate geologist or supervisor.
· Conduct routine field inspections and support geological projects throughout the mine site.
· Safely operate company vehicles and light-duty equipment when trained and authorized.
· Work collaboratively with Geology, Mine Engineering, Survey, Operations, Laboratory, and other departments.
· Follow all MSHA requirements, Walker Lane Mining safety procedures, and environmental policies.
· Participate in safety meetings, workplace examinations, and required training.
· Perform other duties and geological projects as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
· No college degree required.
· Previous mining, exploration, geological, laboratory, surveying, construction, or outdoor field experience is preferred but not required.
· Previous experience with sampling, drill core, rock identification, GPS equipment, or geological fieldwork is a plus.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
· Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
· Ability to learn geological sampling, drill-core handling, ore-control, and mine-site procedures.
· Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
· Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
· Comfortable working independently in field environments after receiving appropriate training.
· Valid Driver's License required.
· MSHA Part 48 Surface Miner certification preferred or ability to obtain.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
· Ability to work on uneven, rocky, and sloped terrain.
· Ability to bend, kneel, climb, lift, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
· Ability to safely work around heavy mining equipment and active mine operations.
· Ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions.
Work Schedule
· Full-Time, on-site position in Fallon, Nevada.
· Schedule may include extended shifts based on operational requirements.
· Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required depending on operational needs.
Work Environment
This position includes a combination of field, mine-site, laboratory, and office work. Employees may be exposed to dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, extreme temperatures, uneven terrain, and active mining and processing operations.
Required PPE may include hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and steel-toe boots.
