About the Role

As a Marine Structural Welder, you will play a critical role in the fabrication and assembly of complex vessel components, ensuring the structural integrity of hulls, superstructures, and engine rooms. You will utilize advanced welding techniques to deliver high-quality joints, contributing directly to the safety and longevity of commercial marine vessels.

Responsibilities

Execute high-quality welds on panels, modules, and structural assemblies using SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW processes.
Perform precise skip welds, fillet, and butt-weld joints across all positions, including overhead and vertical.
Prepare metal surfaces and weld seams through grinding, tacking, and air-arc gouging to ensure optimal weld penetration.
Maintain equipment performance by performing routine maintenance, cleaning, and adjustments on welding machinery.
Implement safe shipyard practices, including proper setup of ventilation and lighting for confined space operations.
Collaborate with the production team to interpret blueprints and layout complex weld patterns efficiently.
Mentor junior team members and apprentices to foster a culture of technical excellence and safety.

Required Skills

3+ years of professional welding experience, preferably in a marine or heavy industrial environment.
Current or ability to obtain 2G, 3G, and 4G ABS or USCG welding certifications.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in physically demanding positions.
Strong understanding of metallurgy and welding principles for steel, aluminum, and stainless alloys.

Preferred Skills

Advanced 6G certifications in multiple processes including TIG and MIG.
Previous experience with shipyard operations, dry-docking, or new vessel construction.
OSHA 10-hour certification or specialized shipyard safety training.
Experience with non-destructive testing methods, such as ultrasound inspection.
Aptitude for leadership and interest in advancing into crew supervision roles.
