Position SummaryThe Level 2 Automotive Technician is an experienced technician responsible for performing intermediate to advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide variety of vehicle systems. This role requires the ability to work independently on most repair orders while assisting senior technicians with more complex diagnostics. The Level 2 Technician consistently delivers high-quality repairs, maintains productivity standards, and contributes to an efficient and customer-focused service department.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesVehicle Diagnostics & Repairs
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and drivability concerns with minimal supervision.
- Perform maintenance and repair services on gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles (where qualified).
- Repair engine, transmission, suspension, steering, braking, HVAC, cooling, charging, and fuel systems.
- Perform timing belt and timing chain replacements.
- Replace major vehicle components, including engines, transmissions, differentials, and suspension assemblies.
- Diagnose electrical system faults using scan tools, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic equipment.
- Perform manufacturer warranty repairs in accordance with OEM guidelines.
- Complete multi-point vehicle inspections and identify additional maintenance or repair opportunities.
- Test drive vehicles before and after repairs to verify proper operation.
Shop Operations
- Complete repair orders accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain productivity and efficiency goals established by the dealership.
- Document repair procedures, labor operations, and diagnostic findings.
- Maintain proper care of shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and workstations.
- Ensure vehicles are clean and protected during the repair process.
Team Collaboration
- Assist Level 1 technicians with technical questions.
- Collaborate with Level 3 technicians on advanced diagnostics and difficult repairs.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow OSHA and dealership safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Properly dispose of hazardous materials according to environmental regulations.
- Comply with all dealership policies and manufacturer standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of an automotive technical training program preferred.
- 3–5 years of professional automotive repair experience.
- OEM certifications preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

- ASE A1–A8 Certifications
- ASE L1 Advanced Engine Performance (preferred)
- EPA Section 609 Air Conditioning Certification
- State Inspection License (where required)

Career ProgressionThe Level 2 Automotive Technician is expected to demonstrate strong technical proficiency, independent diagnostic capability, and consistent productivity.
