Position Summary
Project Threadways is hiring a Textile Arts Apprentice to join our production team. This is a full-time, hourly, and entry-level learning position for someone who wants to build real skills in handpainted textile arts while supporting the day-to-day operation of the department. The apprentice will work alongside our Textile Artisans to learn hand-painting techniques and production standards, while also taking ownership of workspace organization, supply tracking, and inventory. No prior professional textile experience is required; we are looking for someone organized, dependable, and eager to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Artistic Production:
- Learn foundational hand-painting techniques on fabric and other materials under the
- guidance of Textile Artisans.
- Practice color coordination, brush technique, and design application to build toward
- independent production work.
- Participate in scheduled training and skill-building sessions, tracking progress toward apprenticeship milestones.
- Ensure the highest level of quality and consistency in all painted products, maintaining the artistic standards of Project Threadways.
Assisting Production:
- Support Textile Artisans with prep work, material setup, and production tasks on active projects.
- Assist with quality checks on finished pieces, flagging items that need adjustment.
- Help prepare sample pieces and mock-ups as directed.
Organization, Facilities & Supplies:
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including the proper care and storage of paints, brushes, and other tools.
- Monitor inventory levels of painting supplies and notify management when reordering is necessary.
- Assist with general studio and facility upkeep, including equipment care and organization systems.
- Adhere to safety protocols for handling paints and chemicals, ensuring a safe work environment.
Documentation & Archives:
- Type and organize technique and recipe books, creating any missing swatches for the archive.
- Maintain accurate records of paints, brushes, and other materials, and support inventory management and ordering documentation.
- Help maintain and update the Textile Painting Training Manual throughout the apprenticeship, documenting techniques, standards, training steps, recipes, and any changes or additions that should become part of the permanent departmental record.
- Work closely with the department supervisor, the Textile Painting team, and the archive team to ensure the department's knowledge, materials, training, and processes are properly documented and preserved
Team & Communication:
- Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and design specifications.
- Make adjustments or corrections as needed to maintain the integrity and quality of each piece.
- Assist in developing quality control processes to minimize errors and improve overall production efficiency.
Process Improvement:
- Communicate clearly with Textile Artisans and the production team to coordinate daily workflow.

Project Threadways: Dress Code
Dress code for this position will be clean, casual, and comfortable clothing appropriate for painting and working environments. Closed-toed shoes are preferred for safety reasons.
Safety
All Project Threadways employees must be able to operate within their department with safety in mind. Sharp objects are used on a regular basis and should be handled with care.
Minimum Job Requirements
No professional textile experience is required. Interest in art, design, or craft is a plus. Strong organizational habits, attention to detail, and comfort following instructions and safety procedures are necessary. A positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn are a must. Basic sewing or hand-skills experience is helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Standing, sitting, and walking for up to 8 hours a day
- May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

Pay: $14.00 - $17.00 per hour
