The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a full-time Instructional Laboratory Technician (Welding) in the Instruction division.
Salary placement will be on Range 25 of Classified Salary Schedule B. Initial salary step placement for new employees is customarily at step 1, 2, or 3 ($5,293.00 / $5,616.00 / $5,948.00 per month) of this 20-step salary range.
Probationary period for new Classified Represented employees is six months. Work year is 12 calendar months. The normal workweek for this position is 40 hours. Paid holiday, discretionary, and sick time are provided. Ten vacation days accrue during the first year of employment. A regular work schedule will be assigned, with the ability to occasionally work a flexible schedule as needed with supervisor approval.

Position Description:
Reporting to and under the supervision of the Dean, School of Applied Technologies, with daily task coordination provided by the department chair and working in collaboration with the department chair, department coordinators and faculty, performs a variety of technical and specialized duties related to the preparation, operation and maintenance of Welding laboratories, classroom, tool rooms and related areas; operates welding and metalworking equipment and performs tasks to process instructional materials; provides information and technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
Two (2) years of full-time equivalent, paid journey-level experience as a welder, metal fabricator, machinist, or closely related trade.
Education:
Education equivalent to an Associate's degree (60 semester units) from an accredited institution. Two (2) years of additional directly related experience may be substituted for each one year (30 semester units) of college. Additional years of relevant technical experience may be considered in lieu of the supplemental education required. Additional relevant education may be considered in lieu of the experience required.
Licenses/Certificates:

Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver’s License.

Possession of (or ability to obtain within probationary period) forklift operator certification.
Desirable Qualifications:

Associate's degree in Welding Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field.

Completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship or trade program.

Experience working in a community college instructional laboratory.

Microsoft Excel experience (Entry to intermediate).

OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
Physical Characteristics:
The physical demands for this position include the ability to lift and stack objects up to 100 pounds occasionally and frequently exert 50 to 70 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Work involves sitting, walking, standing, stooping, climbing stairs, reaching, twisting, and turning, bending at the waist. Must be able to effectively communicate with others. Must be able to operate computers and related manufacturing and welding equipment. Work exposes incumbent to toxic, pathogenic, or otherwise irritating substances and chemicals and requires the use of protective devices for eyes, respiration, and hearing. In the event of an emergency, employees will be relied upon to serve as emergency service workers.
