A Transformative Youth-Centered Program

Case Manager

Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE

This position is responsible for assisting with the implementation of the Thrive Program, part of the National Conflict Resolution Center’s (NCRC’s) Avoiding the Pipeline to Prison Initiative. This position will be working in conjunction with NCRC management, program partners, and community stakeholders. Current position will serve, North and North Central County San Diego and be based out of NCRC’s North County (San Marcos) office. This is a hybrid remote position requiring a minimum of three (3) days in-office and two (2) optional remote work days

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and community-driven to take on this exciting role. They will have a solid understanding of restorative justice principles, 2+ years of youth case management and mentorship experience; 2+ years working with diverse teams; a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or another closely related area with relevant experience including:

Strong demonstrated ability to develop personal networking relationships
Strong sense of compassion and empathy for youth impacted by the juvenile justice system
Knowledge and application of evidence-based practices; demonstrated competency in collaboration, humility, perseverance, adaptability
Ability to share personal experiences to build trust
Ability to identify problems and be innovative with problem-solving efforts along with advocacy and counseling navigation
Demonstrated ability to work cross-racially, cross-culturally, and cross-denominationally
Excellent organizational, listening, oral, and written communication skills
Ability to coordinate among various stakeholders to complete projects and activities
A solid understanding of and commitment to social change through building the capacity and power of people to transform themselves and their communities
Bilingual Spanish fluency preferred
Intermediate computer skills including the ability to learn new technology

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Direct Service

Build trust and relationships with participants through pro-social activities
Create opportunities for youth who are transitioning out of NCRC’s Juvenile Diversion Initiative (JDI) to continue engagement with the restorative process including: mentorship, counseling, community service opportunities, after school programs, and job readiness training with the goal to ensure the participants continue pro-social activities, receive support for their strengths from community partners/resources and prepare for gainful employment
Develop and implement a Peer Mentorship program designed to build leadership skills and opportunities to demonstrate these skills, such as mentoring other youth who are going through the JDI program
Provide an evidence-based assessment with the transitioning youth that will lead to the creation of an action plan that addresses the strengths and continued needs of the participant, utilizes connections to community resources and contains a goal-tracking element to measure youth engagement and succes
Perform ongoing case management to ensure participants are progressing while adjusting services as needed
Conduct participant evaluations and post-assessments
Help maintain a referral system between community support services and participants in the program
Stay current with trends in the field of youth/juvenile engagement by attending events and researching other transformative youth-centered programs

Outreach, Collective Impact

Connect to existing partners, and develop new community partnerships to find opportunities for positive extracurricular activities, leadership training, skill building and job opportunities for youth
Cultivate and develop relationships with partner organizations, and other community resources that offer job-readiness training, services, programs or other opportunities for youth to identify and connect to their strengths, tap into their passions, and develop or build upon job-readiness skills
Coordinate, manage and evaluate opportunities for the participant to receive mentoring from trusted community partners
Participate in and support other community-driven efforts to disrupt the school to prison pipeline

Documentation and Administrative

Track and document action plan data for program evaluation and reporting purposes
Track and document program-related expenses

Other Duties and Expectations

Participate in non-program related NCRC events, staff development, and self-care
Other duties as relevant to the performance of the position

Hourly Range

$23.50 - $25.00/per hour, dependent on experience.
