Engineering Technician - Electroforming
Location: AMG–Danbury
Position Summary
The Engineering Technician – Electroforming supports the engineering and production teams in the development, setup, monitoring, and continuous improvement of electroforming processes used to manufacture precision metal components for aerospace and defense applications. This role combines hands-on technical work with process support, data collection, testing, and documentation. Reporting directly to Engineering, the technician also works closely with Quality and Operations to ensure repeatable, compliant, and high-quality electroformed products.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering and Technology Development Support
- Assist engineers with process development, trials, and qualification runs.
- Set up and prepare mandrels, tooling, prototype fixtures, and racks for electroforming builds.
- Monitor process parameters such as current density, temperature, pH, chemistry levels, and plating time.
- Record and report process data and deviations.
- Assist with stripping, part removal, and post-process handling steps.
Testing & Analysis
- Perform thickness measurements, prepare and process test coupons for basic mechanical testing.
- Support process capability studies and first article builds.
- Assist with root cause investigations related to defects, variation, or yield loss.
Documentation & Controls
- Maintain process logs, batch records, and technical worksheets.
- Update work instructions, setup sheets, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) as directed.
- Support configuration control and revision updates for process documentation.
- Ensure traceability requirements are met for aerospace/defense work.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in process improvement and yield improvement initiatives.
- Support DOE trials and controlled experiments.
- Suggest tooling, fixturing, and workflow improvements.
- Assist with lean and waste-reduction efforts within the electroforming area.
Equipment & Safety
- Follow all EHS requirements for chemical handling and hazardous materials.
- Use proper PPE and support safe chemical storage and labeling practices.
- Support 6S and clean-room or controlled environment standards where applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, lab, plating, or process environment preferred.
- Ability to follow detailed technical procedures and work instructions.
- Basic understanding of electrical, chemical, or materials processing concepts.
- Strong data recording and organizational skills.
- Comfortable working with chemicals and wet process systems.
- Proficient with basic computer tools (Excel, Word, production systems).
Compliance Requirement:
Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) to support ITAR technical data access requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with thickness measurement tools and basic metrology.
- Exposure to AS9100 / ISO quality systems.
