Full Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Chemical Process Engineer supports Zircoa’s strategic business objectives by ensuring robust, efficient, and reliable zirconia grain production processes.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Providing advanced process and technological support for clinker manufacturing and raw material preparation, including batch composition optimization, extrusion, drying, sintering, crushing, and milling.

2. Leading the development, control, and continuous improvement of the chemical acid leaching process used to convert clinker feedstock into zirconia grain. This encompasses the full process chain: multistep acid leaching reactions, solid–liquid separation (settling and vacuum filtration), drying, screening, and final product chemistry control.

3. Ensuring stable, efficient, and safe process conditions that meet product quality, environmental, and cost-performance targets.

The position requires deep expertise in chemistry, thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, and process engineering, as well as strong hands-on experience with wet chemical processes, inorganic reaction systems, and industrial-scale process operations, with a clear focus on continuous improvement.

Essential Functions

Responsible for the design, continuous improvement, and troubleshooting of all zirconia powder manufacturing processes
Support EHS Coordinator in issues specific to the zirconia manufacturing plant
Recommend, specification and design of process equipment
Planning, execution and documentation of engineering projects and trials
Work in tandem with zirconia plant superintendent to implement process improvements
Provide technical assistance to Sales and Marketing in support of customer product quality requirements
Identify, develop, and implement new process methods, raw materials, and equipment in support of new products, cost reduction, and quality improvement
Support internal and regulatory reporting requirements including, but not limited to, air, storm water, and surface water discharge

Competencies

Strong background with inorganic chemistry,
Decision Making
Programming controls and data collection systems
Direct, optimized and trouble-shoot production processes and equipment.
Technical Project Definition and Management
Communication, language, people, and creative skills
Statistical analysis, familiarity with SPC and MiniTab a plus
Critical problem-solving, root-cause analysis

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment, in manufacturing operation, and lab areas. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, salary exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

MS in Chemical Engineering or related field.

Three or more years in a chemical process manufacturing function
