Full Job Description

Position Summary

The RSS Lead serves as the on-site leadership presence for Tessa Lee Libby Treatment Center during evenings and weekends, ensuring a safe, structured, and therapeutic residential environment for women receiving substance use treatment.

This position provides supervision and support to Residential Support Specialists (RSS), responds to resident concerns and behavioral escalations, reinforces program expectations, and promotes a culture of accountability, professionalism, and trauma-informed care. RSS leads work collaboratively with the Program Manager and leadership team to ensure continuity of operations during non-traditional business hours.

The RSS Lead is expected to model calm leadership, sound judgment, and effective decision-making while supporting both residents and staff through the challenges of residential treatment.

Wednesday thru Sunday 4PM - 12AM

Provides leadership coverage during evening programming, medication pass, resident transitions, and the overlap between second and third shifts.

Provides leadership during weekend programming, resident activities, admissions, transportation, and daily operations.

Provides leadership during evening programming, medication pass, behavioral support, bedtime routines, and the transition into overnight operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Support

Serve as the designated shift leader during assigned hours.
Provide direction, coaching, and real-time support to Residential Support Specialists.
Promote accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and consistent implementation of program policies.
Mentor new employees and assist with orientation and skill development.
Communicate significant resident or staffing concerns to the Program Manager and leadership team.
Participate in leadership meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives as assigned.

Resident Care

Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-focused residential environment.
Develop supportive, professional relationships with residents while maintaining healthy boundaries.
Assist residents with problem-solving, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution.
Reinforce daily schedules, community expectations, and treatment participation.
Encourage resident engagement while promoting independence and personal responsibility.

Crisis Intervention & Safety

Respond to behavioral escalations, emotional crises, and emergency situations.
Utilize Safety-Care® principles and trauma-informed de-escalation techniques.
Determine when additional clinical, medical, or emergency response is required.
Ensure appropriate documentation and communication following critical incidents.
Monitor the residential environment to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

Residential Operations

Oversee day-to-day residential operations during assigned shifts.
Ensure completion of assigned staff duties and resident routines.
Conduct environmental safety rounds.
Assist with transportation, appointments, admissions, and discharges as needed.
Support implementation of medication procedures in collaboration with CRMAs and nursing staff.
Ensure smooth communication during shift changes.

Documentation

Complete accurate, objective, and timely documentation.
Review communication logs and follow up on outstanding concerns.
Complete incident reports, shift summaries, and other required documentation.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.

Qualifications

Required

High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum two (2) years of experience in residential treatment, behavioral health, substance use treatment, mental health, human services, or a related field.
Demonstrated leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during crises.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass all required background checks.

Preferred

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Behavioral Health, or a related field.
Previous supervisory or shift leadership experience.
Experience working in substance use treatment or residential behavioral health.

Required Certifications

Employees must obtain and maintain the following certifications as required by the organization:

Safety-Care® Certification
Certified Residential Medication Aide (CRMA) Certification (preferred at hire; required within an established timeframe if applicable)
CPR/First Aid
Naloxone Administration
HIPAA and Confidentiality Training
Trauma-Informed Care Training
Annual mandatory trainings required by the organization and licensing agencies

Working Conditions

RSS Leads work in a residential treatment setting serving women recovering from substance use disorders. The position requires frequent interaction with residents experiencing emotional distress, behavioral crises, and complex recovery needs. Evening, weekend, holiday, and occasional overtime hours may be required.
