A well-established nonprofit organization is seeking a dynamic, compassionate, and highly organized professional to serve as its Activity Coordinator / Program Manager. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing engaging educational, recreational, and social programming for active adults age 55+ throughout the greater Harrisburg area.
The successful candidate will be passionate about enhancing the quality of life for older adults through meaningful experiences, community engagement, lifelong learning, and social connection.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Management
- Design and implement year-round programs, classes, workshops, and special events that engage and connect adults age 55+.
- Develop and maintain a monthly calendar of activities, including educational programs, guest speakers, community engagement opportunities, games, entertainment, arts and crafts, and wellness initiatives.
- Organize and oversee seasonal celebrations, holiday events, and other special programs.
- Incorporate participant feedback into programming to ensure activities remain relevant, meaningful, and engaging.
Senior Club Operations
- Coordinate and oversee regularly scheduled senior luncheon programs and related activities.
- Collaborate with food service staff regarding menu planning and participant needs.
- Assist with event setup, serving, participant engagement, and cleanup as needed.
- Ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants.
Travel & Community Engagement
- Plan and coordinate day trips and occasional overnight excursions, including transportation, accommodations, itineraries, and participant communications.
- Supervise outings and ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of participants.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with community organizations, faith-based institutions, and local service providers.
Communications & Administration
- Create and distribute a monthly newsletter highlighting upcoming programs and events.
- Maintain accurate participant records and program databases.
- Manage activity supplies and equipment for ongoing programs and clubs.
- Research, apply for, and oversee applicable grant opportunities to support programming initiatives.
Financial & Organizational Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and managing program budgets.
- Monitor program revenues and expenses to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of two years of experience planning, coordinating, and implementing activities, programs, or events.
- Demonstrated business acumen, including budget management and expense control.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to represent the organization professionally within the community.
- Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Enthusiasm for working with active older adults and supporting healthy aging initiatives.
- Understanding of and respect for diverse cultural, religious, and community traditions.
- Availability for occasional evening programs and overnight travel.
