Senior Project Manager

Wastewater Pumping Station Reconstruction

Inter Contracting Corp.

Location: Brooklyn, NY (on-site, daily) | Type: Full-time | Duration: Multi-year project assignment (~5 years)

Compensation: $225,000-$275,000, health/dental/vision, 401(k) + match, PTO, vehicle/allowance, performance bonus

About the Role

Inter Contracting Corp., a leading heavy civil and public-works contractor, is seeking a Senior Project Manager to serve as the on-site administrative lead for the reconstruction of a major NYC wastewater pumping station — a multi-year, high-value municipal contract.

The role is based on-site and requires you to run the administrative and commercial side of a large, complex public-works contract. You will manage the submittal and RFI process end to end, identify and price change orders, manage long-lead procurement, prepare and process payment requisitions, and handle all correspondence and meetings with the owner.

You will also coordinate and oversee the subcontractors performing the process-mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing work — holding them to scope, schedule, and quality — and support the on-site execution of the self-performed civil work. The role demands disciplined contract administration and the ability to keep every workstream moving to schedule on a multi-year municipal project.

No staffing agency candidates will be considered for this role.

Responsibilities

Full submittal and RFI lifecycle — logging, tracking, expediting, and closing out to protect the schedule
Identifying, documenting, and pricing change orders; protecting the company's commercial position
Managing long-lead materials and major equipment from procurement through fabrication and delivery
Payment requisitions and payment applications
Owner correspondence, attending meetings with the owner, and maintaining the contract record
Coordinating and overseeing specialty and mechanical subcontractors — scope, interfaces, schedule, and quality
Supporting the Senior Superintendent directing self-performed force main work
Managing the project's CPM schedule alongside our scheduling consultant

Must-Have Qualifications

1. Contract administration and commercial command on major public work. Demonstrated ownership of the full administrative and commercial cycle on a large public-agency construction contract — submittals, RFIs, change-order identification and pricing, requisitions and payment applications, long-lead procurement tracking, and owner correspondence.

2. Subcontractor coordination and oversight. Proven experience coordinating and overseeing specialty and mechanical subcontractors on a project of comparable complexity — scope and interface management, and holding subs to schedule and quality.

3. Scale and duration. Has carried a project of comparable contract value and multi-year performance period from award through closeout — not a portfolio of small concurrent jobs.

4. CPM schedule management. Experienced in managing a CPM schedule — reviewing updates, protecting the critical path, and handling time-impact and delay analysis.

5. Relevant project-type experience. Construction experience on heavy civil, infrastructure, or process/utility projects. Direct experience on a wastewater/water pumping station or treatment plant — or a comparable process-mechanical facility involving process piping, large rotating equipment, and instrumentation/SCADA — is strongly preferred.

6. Seniority. Roughly 10–15+ years in heavy civil / public-works construction management, with full-lifecycle project experience including exposure to liquidated damages and claims.

7. Safety. OSHA 30 (minimum) and comfort operating under an owner-mandated site-safety regime, including confined-space and bypass-pumping conditions typical of pump-station work.

8. On-site presence. Able to be on-site in Brooklyn daily (or nearly daily) for the full multi-year duration. This is a field-based role — not home-office or hybrid.

Preferred / Plus

Direct wastewater/water pumping station or treatment plant experience
NYC DEP contracting experience
Hands-on Primavera P6 schedule building
Experience on an all-union project under a Project Labor Agreement (PLA)
Prior exposure to EFC/CWSRF or other federal-aid compliance programs (DBE, Davis-Bacon, Buy America)
Familiarity with the interface between self-performed civil work and subcontracted process-mechanical scopes

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: $225,000–$275,000 per year. (Actual offer depends on experience and qualifications.)
