About the Role:

The Cook position within the educational services sector plays a vital role in preparing nutritious and appealing meals that support the health and well-being of students and staff. This role requires meticulous food preparation and adherence to safety and hygiene standards to ensure all meals meet quality expectations. The Cook will collaborate closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team to execute daily menus efficiently while accommodating dietary restrictions and preferences. Additionally, the role demands physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform tasks such as climbing stairs and manual food handling. Ultimately, the Cook contributes to creating a positive dining experience that fosters a supportive learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to speak and understand both English and Spanish to communicate effectively in a bilingual environment.
Proven experience in food preparation and production within a professional kitchen setting.
Capability to read and comprehend English instructions, recipes, and safety guidelines.
Physical ability to stand for long periods and perform manual tasks required in a kitchen environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working under the supervision of a Head Chef or in a similar leadership kitchen role.
Formal culinary training or certification in food safety and nutrition.
Previous experience in an educational or institutional food service setting.

Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes and nutritional guidelines.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food preparation areas.
Follow food safety and sanitation protocols to ensure compliance with health regulations.
Assist the Head Chef in menu planning and inventory management.
Communicate effectively with team members and occasionally with students or staff regarding meal options.
Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently while demonstrating manual dexterity.
Stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting and climbing stairs as needed.
