Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Marshallese Advocate to serve as a vital support for Marshallese communities and families. In this role, you will act as a bridge between community members and essential services, providing culturally responsive advocacy, guidance, crisis intervention, safety planning and additional support. Your energy and commitment will help empower individuals, promote family stability, and ensure access to resources that foster well-being. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others!

*Must be able to speak and write in Marshallese

Responsibilities:

Provides trauma-informed direct services to victims of domestic abuse and/or sexual assault and their children including support, advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, parenting support, information, and referrals.
Builds access for historically marginalized victims of abuse in the Marshallese community.
Helps ensure all organizational forms, educational materials, policies and procedures are Marshallese inclusive.
Be available to provide 24-hour crisis line and crisis advocacy for individuals with limited English skills.
Facilitate support groups and/or self-help groups for Marshallese victims of domestic violence or sexual assault.
Provide community education around domestic violence and sexual violence and how it impacts the Marshallese community and other related topics.
Serve as a key liaison with Marshallese partnering agencies and maintain resource directory.
Coordinate community outreach presentations to Marshallese population designed to increase awareness of services.
Translate agency documents and information into Marshallese as needed.
Provides support to survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault by answering the crisis hotline and providing advocacy, resources and referrals.
Models and actively promote positive, nurturing interactions between adults and children in shelter.
Understands and utilizes principles of trauma informed care and the empowerment philosophy of advocacy.
Communicates shelter rules and communal living guidelines to residents during shift.
Reviews emergency procedures with other staff and residents on a monthly basis and as need arises.
Takes appropriate steps to deal with emergency situations with the goal of maintaining a safe environment for residents and staff, and reports such situations in writing to supervisor.
Approves and records financial requests and requests for overnight stays.
Records documentation related to client services and financial assistance into the client data system.
Completes room checks.
Helps staff coordinate programs in shelter with residents.
Performs regular pack ups and records property belonging to clients who have abandoned shelter.
Performs routine chores and cleaning tasks assigned to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the shelter facility.
Facilitates and schedules transportation of clients to and/or from appointments as needed.
Participates in On Call rotation.
Attends and participates in scheduled weekly and monthly meetings.
Maintains various certifications of trainings in Domestic violence and Sexual Assault.
Exhibits exemplary attendance and punctuality.
Complies with company policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.
Must be able to provide transportation to NWAWS clients in shelter vehicles.

Education and Related Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in social work, family and human services, or related field is preferred but not required. Adequate on the job experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience in social services and/or family violence.
Bilingual fluent- Marshallese, speaking and writing.
No prior felony convictions for violent offenses. Background checks will be conducted.
