Full Job Description

Location: Upcountry Maui/ Upper Makawao

We are seeking a licensed RN, LVN/LPN, or EMT for a

==> Saturday night extended shift providing overnight and morning care for an elderly gentleman in his 80s in a calm, well-supported home environment.

This role is ideal for a steady, compassionate clinician who values relationship-based care, autonomy, and a predictable, respectful setting. This is not a facility—it is a private home with clear protocols, support staff, and physician phone oversight.

Schedule

Every Saturday
Start: Saturday at 7:00 PM
End options:
12:00 PM Sunday (minimum)
Up to 7:00 PM Sunday (preferred when available; higher flat-rate pay applies)
Total shift length: ~17–24 hours, depending on availability

Compensation (Flat Rate)

$850 for 7:00 PM – 12:00 PM Sunday (approx. 17 hours)
$1,235 for 7:00 PM – 7:00 PM Sunday (24 hours; slightly higher effective hourly rate)
1099 position (+GET paid by employer)

All hours, including overnight rest time, are fully compensated.

Role Overview

The evening and morning portions of this shift are the most hands-on. Overnight hours are typically quiet, with sleep permitted in a private downstairs studio suite with a private bathroom, while remaining responsive if needed.

The patient currently has early-stage dementia with increasing short-term memory impairment, requiring patience, reassurance, and familiarity with dementia-related behaviors.

Evening & Bedtime Support (Higher-Touch Window)

Assisting with evening routine and bedtime preparation
Gentle redirection and reassurance if confusion or resistance arises
Administering evening inhaler
Monitoring for agitation, restlessness, or signs of sundowning

Overnight Monitoring & Safety

Sleeping in a private on-site suite; responding promptly if the patient calls using a bell
Occasional assistance with bathroom needs or diaper changes overnight
Responding appropriately to medical or safety concerns using established protocols

Morning Routine & Care

Assisting with waking and morning hygiene
Serving pre-prepared breakfast
Handing pre-organized morning medications from a pillbox
Assisting with showering if needed
Encouraging hydration and light movement
Vital check

Light Activity / Therapeutic Support (Optional & Trainable)

Assisting with short, gentle activity as tolerated, such as:
~10 minutes on the Power Plate
HBOT session (only if appropriate and trained)
Monitoring tolerance and discontinuing if fatigue or discomfort appears
Documenting participation and response

Training is provided;

Dementia Familiarity

The ideal candidate has experience with or familiarity caring for patients with dementia or memory impairment. While symptoms are currently mild, short-term memory issues are increasing, and care needs may evolve over time. Patience, consistency, calm communication, and gentle redirection are essential.

Support & Safety

Other staff are involved in care; this is not an isolated role
24/7 access to an on-call physician by phone for consultation and escalation
Clear emergency and escalation protocols in place

Required Qualifications

RN, LVN/LPN, or EMT certification
Current CPR training
Comfortable with personal care and overnight responsibility
Reliable transportation (Upcountry Maui)

Additional Details

Overnight rest permitted in private accommodations
Regular downtime when the patient is sleeping
Lunch and dinner are provided by a cook
Breakfast items are available for self-service
IV skills preferred.
