Full Job Description

Great Lakes Stair and Steel is seeking both an experienced and/or an entry-level in-house 3D steel modeler or draftsman to add to our company.

The position is full time with overtime opportunities.

Business hours are 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (M-R) and 7:00 – 3:30 PM (F).

Wages are paid weekly on an hourly basis; overtime is paid at time-and-a-half. Compensation will be based on experience and skills: $70,000.00-$150,000.00 per year.

Salaried compensation is open for discussion with the correct candidate.

There is no potential for individuals looking for remote or work from home scenarios.

Benefits include 401K with match, paid vacations and paid holidays. Health insurance is not included.

Responsibilities will include (in order of importance):

- Maintaining files in an orderly fashion and ensuring they are delivered to all correct recipients

- Checking addendums and new information for any changes to your assigned work

- Checking contract documents, RFI's, specifications, etc. to ensure drawings are accurate

- Communicating with Architects, Structural Engineers, Building Owners and Project Managers with situational awareness to solve industry problems

- Writing / submitting of RFI's as needed

- Producing fabrication and field use drawings

- Miscellaneous steel 3D modeling and detailing- we deal primarily with stairs, ladders, railings, and structural steel.

Please keep in mind that everything we produce is a custom fabrication. The ability to design and utilize critical thinking is paramount.

Skills and qualities needed for this position:

- An acute attention to detail

- Excellent understanding and ability with CAD and Microsoft Office software

- Comprehension of and ability to read blueprints, welding symbols, etc.

- Highly organized and committed to producing accurate and complete work

- Friendly personality and willing to work as part of a team

- Must have valid driver’s license

- Prior use of Tekla or Trimble software is beneficial. Independently supervised training during work hours will be provided

The position includes the potential to advance and develop new skills.
