A NOTE BEFORE YOU READ ON
Most job postings are written for the people who are fine with any job. This one isn't. We're looking for someone who wakes up thinking about people. Not HR compliance. Not policies. People.
If you read the word "onboarding" and think about a checklist, this role probably isn't for you. If you read it and think about a new Team Member who is nervous on their first day, wondering whether they made the right call, and how you can make sure they walk out that evening more confident than when they walked in - now we're talking.
Frantz Building Services exists to love and serve well. That's not a slogan on the wall. It's the reason we've been in business since 1985, and it's the lens through which every decision gets made. We're looking for someone who doesn't just understand that mission but embodies it.
WHO WE ARE
We're a commercial cleaning company headquartered in Owensboro, Kentucky with over 500 Team Members across Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee. And yes, we clean buildings for a living - but that's not what we're about. We're about the people who do the work, the customers who trust us with their facilities, and the communities we're privileged to operate in.
We're not a faceless national chain. We're a growing, mission-driven regional company with four decades of history, a leadership team that genuinely cares, and a culture that we protect fiercely. We want to be the most respected company in the cleaning industry - not just in revenue or size, but in how we treat people. That's the vision that drives us.
Our core values of Integrity, Humility, Excellence, and Stewardship aren't aspirational. They're operational. They shape how we hire, how we lead, how we serve customers, and how we handle hard conversations. If those words resonate with you, keep reading.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Here's the honest picture: the People & Culture Manager role at Frantz is one with real weight. You'll oversee the full Team Member experience from the moment someone applies to the day they retire. You'll lead a team that handles recruiting, onboarding, HR administration, and payroll. You'll partner closely with Regional and Account Managers who are leading teams across multiple states. And you'll report directly to the Director of HR & Employee Experience - which means you'll have both autonomy and a thought partner.
This is not a role for someone who needs to be handed a roadmap. The person who succeeds here will look at what we have and see what it could become. They'll spot gaps we haven't named yet. They'll build systems that scale because they understand where we're headed, not just where we are.
The scope is real: compliance, benefits administration, HRIS, safety, recognition, culture, and leadership development all live in this function. You don't have to be the world's foremost expert on all of it. But you need to be intellectually curious, operationally sharp, and relentlessly focused on making Frantz a better place to work.
WHAT YOUR DAYS LOOK LIKE
No two days are the same in this role, which is either exciting or exhausting depending on who you are. Here's an honest look at what you'll be doing:
Building & leading your team. You'll guide the Recruiting & Onboarding, HR admin, and payroll functions. Your job isn't to do all the work, it's to build a team that does it exceptionally well and grows in the process.
Owning the candidate & new hire experience. Every candidate deserves a process that respects their time and reflects our values. Every new hire deserves a first week that makes them feel like they made the right call. You'll make sure both are true.
Partnering with Managers. Regional and Account Managers are the frontline of our culture. You'll be their resource - training them, coaching them through hard situations, and helping them become better leaders. This is where the role can have its biggest impact.
Driving recognition & engagement. We believe in celebrating people. You'll build and sustain programs that ensure achievements, milestones, and contributions don't go unnoticed and that recognition feels genuine, not performative.
Managing compliance & HR operations. ACA, OSHA, EEO-1, FMLA, workers' comp, benefits administration, payroll accuracy - the fundamentals have to be right. This isn't the flashiest part of the work, but it matters enormously and you'll own it.
Using data to tell a story. Turnover, retention, time-to-hire, engagement scores - you'll monitor the metrics, understand what's driving them, and bring insights to the team that inform real decisions.
Keeping the systems healthy. Our HRIS and ATS platforms are tools, not destinations. You'll make sure they're running cleanly and look for ways to reduce manual work and increase what we can actually see.
Thinking about what's next. The person we're looking for doesn't just manage what exists - they're already thinking about what this function should look like in two years, five years, and beyond. We want that voice at the table.
WHO YOU ARE
We could write a list of requirements here. Instead, let us describe the person who will thrive in this role.
You lead with warmth. People want to talk to you. They trust you. You have the kind of presence that makes someone feel like their concern actually matters - because to you, it does.
You're a teacher at heart. Whether you're walking a new Account Manager through a corrective action process for the first time, or training a team on how to deliver a better candidate experience, you find genuine satisfaction in helping others grow. You explain things clearly. You're patient. And you hold people to a standard.
You don't need someone to light a fire under you. You see what needs to be done and you go do it. Not impulsively, but thoughtfully. But you're self-propelled, and the people around you notice it.
You're comfortable with complexity. A 500+ person multi-state workforce with multiple reporting structures and a broad HR scope is not simple territory. You can hold a lot of moving pieces and keep your priorities straight.
You have a measure of vision. You're not just managing the current state - you're thinking about where this function could go and what it would take to get there. You bring that perspective to conversations with leadership, not as a complaint about what's missing, but as a vision for what's possible.
You take the mission seriously. "To Love & Serve Well" isn't just a nice phrase to you. It shapes how you treat a Team Member who's frustrated, how you write a job posting, and how you show up on a hard day.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're less interested in a checklist and more interested in a track record. That said, here's the honest picture of what this role requires:
- Proven experience leading HR, recruiting, and onboarding functions, ideally in a fast-paced or high-growth environment.
- Solid command of HR compliance, labor law, and regulatory reporting (ACA, OSHA, EEO-1, FMLA, and similar).
- A data-driven mindset. You can find the story in a spreadsheet and translate it into action.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with people at every level of the organization.
- Leadership instincts You build people up and hold them to a standard at the same time.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred but not required if your experience speaks for itself.
- A genuine love for people, not as a soft skill, but as a core operating principle.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Competitive salary, PTO, medical, dental, vision, life, 401K, and all the equipment you need to succeed.
ONE MORE THING
We take our culture seriously, and so we take this hire seriously. The right person for this role will feel it in their gut - not just that they're qualified, but that this is a place they want to show up for. If that's you, we'd love to meet you.
