Hourly Range: $25.00-$35.00

General Description
An On-Site Substitute conducts daily assignments in a TK-8th classroom as determined by site needs. A site substitute will implement the lesson plans provided by the classroom educator that integrates a rigorous academic standards-based curriculum with a school-wide emphasis on our four pillars: inquiry, social-emotional, leadership & social justice. A Site Substitute cultivates students’ academic self-confidence and leadership skills in order to participate positively in a global community and work collaboratively towards the Mission and Vision of SDGVA.
Overarching Roles
- Implement San Diego Global Vision Academy's values to achieve its mission, vision and LCAP goals in the classroom.
- Work collaboratively to achieve the overall measurable goals as listed in the charter.
- Adapt and adjust to current needs of SDGVA environment in a positive manner including flexibility requested by administration regarding schedules, duties, etc.
- Flexible in supporting and implementation in K-8th self-contained classroom or block scheduling.
- Adhere to the policies, procedures as outlined in the SDGVA Employee Handbook
- Adhere to the policies, procedures as outlined in the SDGVA Parent/Student Handbook
- Duties as assigned and adapted by administration throughout the school year.
Representative Duties (non-exhaustive):
Classroom Duties
- Demonstrates the ability to work with students, parents/guardians and colleagues
- Employs effective pedagogical practices that meet the needs of our culturally and linguistically diverse student population
- Commits to student success and assumes a teamed approach to student achievement
- Commits to leadership development of all students school-wide TK-8th
- Understanding of, willingness to and capacity for implementing lessons based on CA Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, CA Physical Education Standards, National Core Arts Standards & CA English Language Development Standards.
- Ability to plan, collaborate and reflect with educators, education specialists and instructional associates.
- Guides the learning process to help students achieve content objectives on a daily basis
- Maintains a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning
- Maintains effective behavior management in their classroom and school-wide
- Implements useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures (informal & formal)
- Selects and uses effective instructional methods and learning materials
- Establishes a cooperative relationship with all assigned students
- Implements an educator’s differentiated curricular plans to meet those needs
- Supports tutoring interventions or homework support during after-school program
- Comply with state and federal guidelines regarding implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), English Learners and 504 plans.
Professional Development
- Participates in professional development during peer collaboration and professional development days/month.
- Work collaboratively as a team member of our SDGVA learning community.
- Actively implements and strives to improve on SDGVA’s Professional Competencies
- Employs positive communication strategies with colleagues.
- Reflective of their practice and willing to adapt instruction based upon new pedagogical strategies, research or interventions presented during professional development
- Reflective of their leadership style and willing to adapt to the needs of SDGVA colleagues as a contributing member of the school-wide learning community.
- Off-site professional development as determined or approved by Administration
General Duties (these times and dates are subject to change depending on school calendar and start & end times):
- The start time is 7:00am. End time is 3:30pm. Time subject to change.
- On-Site Substitutes participate in the after school 6 to 6 duties as assigned.
- On-SIte Substitutes may work directly with one-on-one students
- Maintain, participate and check SDGVA email account beginning on Sunday evening by 7pm thru the week until Friday at least two times per day– unless on PTO and/or protected leave.
- Engage in ongoing digital professional development if requested.
- Adhere to schedules .
- Conduct safety patrol before/after-school with traffic, if requested by Administration.
- Rotunda & Gate Duty support before & after-school (drop-off & pick-up).
- Comply with health protocols established by the school, outlined in the Employee Handbook, for the purpose of student and staff safety.
- Follow custodial protocols to support students with health concerns such as first aid, vomit or any other health concerns as needed.
- Comply with any health guidelines and protocols listed in students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) under Special Education.
Employee-First Responsibilities (If Applicable):
Any SDGVA Employee that elects to send their child to attend SDGVA TK-8 agrees to the following:
- During school events (Open House, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Field Trips, Weekend Events, Overnight Events etc.) you remain an employee of SDGVA first and foremost. You will make arrangements for your child(ren) as needed in order for you to perform duties outlined in the job description.
- SDGVA Employees will follow communication guidelines in the Parent/Student Handbook for non-emergency related concerns, incidents, issues, events etc.
- In the event of an emergency SDGVA Employees will perform their duties outlined in SDGVA’s Comprehensive Safety Plan.

Requisite Abilities:
- Must be willing to work in/with and support a communicative and collaborative team model with a positive professional demeanor.
- Operate standard office equipment and related software applications
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing with adults and students K-8 grade.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others (adults and students)
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action regarding student academic achievement, behavior leadership and/or interactions with adults (parents/guardians or SDGVA colleagues)
- Plan, organize and effectively complete work required of teachers on an ongoing basis
- Meet schedules and timelines as defined by colleagues and/or administration
- Maintain records and prepare reports for colleagues and/or administration, such as Annual Site Visit, assessment reports, students folders, accountability measures and charter renewal
- Work independently with little direction required by administration or SDGVA colleagues
- Take initiative on tasks or projects that promote SDGVA mission and vision
- Read, interpret, agree, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for SDGVA
- Maintain positive professional demeanor and actively avoid problem-saturated conversations, gossip and cliques.
Qualifications: The classroom teacher will meet all qualifications for highly qualified teachers as set by the State of California. All teachers shall meet the following employment criteria:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
- A valid California Multiple-Subject Credential
- A valid CLAD certificate
- 30 day Emergency Permit
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Be able to stand, take students to class and participating in school events that require physical activity
- In good physical condition for student supervision indoors and outdoors daily
- Be able to stand and take students to/from class and participate in school events that require physical activity on a daily basis unless a medical disability is on file.
- Be able to supervise students up/down staircases for the purpose of travel and transportation throughout the day unless a medical disability is on file.
- Have read the SDGVA charter, SDGVA Employee Handbook & SDGVA Parent/Student Handbook and accept the program as outline and understand that employment is at-will.
