The Goldfinch School is a premier early childhood program in Seattle, WA, dedicated to creating a warm, beautiful, and nurturing environment where children are deeply known, joyfully challenged, and encouraged to grow through curiosity and play. We believe in the power of intentional teaching, meaningful relationships, and a school culture that feels like an extension of family.

We’re seeking an experienced and passionate Lead Preschool Teacher to join our team full-time . The ideal candidate is someone who brings creativity, professionalism, and a love for young children to their work each day. This teacher will collaborate closely with co-leads and administrators to design and facilitate a rich, play-based curriculum that honors children’s natural curiosity and supports their social, emotional, and academic development.

Responsibilities

Lead the preschool program, working closely with the Director, Co-Lead teachers, substitutes, and families to nurture each child’s development across all domains.
Design and implement a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum based on the school’s pedagogy, incorporating literacy, math, science, art, movement, and social studies through inquiry and exploration.
Plan and facilitate daily activities, small-group work, and community projects that encourage curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
Provide oversight of the classroom’s daily operations, ensuring overall safety, positive interactions, and productive, meaningful learning experiences.
Maintain current knowledge of early childhood best practices, licensing requirements, and ratio standards, ensuring compliance at all times.
Coordinate and lead semi-annual family-teacher conferences, offering thoughtful documentation and reflection on each child’s growth.
Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with families, fostering open communication and a sense of partnership.
Model professional, compassionate communication with colleagues, parents, and community partners.
Create and distribute a monthly classroom newsletter, calendar, and curriculum overview that reflects ongoing learning themes and goals.
Support field trips and outdoor learning experiences that extend classroom inquiry into the community and natural world.
Maintain classroom inventory, materials, and budget within approved parameters.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development workshops, and reflective practice sessions.
Contribute to the overall life of the school, including events, celebrations, and the shared joy of learning.

Experience Requirements

18 years of age
High school Diploma
Initial Certificate
Short Certificate
Associate's degree (or higher) in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Education, Home Economics, Music, Art, Library Science, Physical Education & Recreation, Psychology, Family Studies, or other Early Childhood Education/Development related fields
At least 5 years working with children ages 2-5
At least 2 years in a traditional Preschool setting
Experience developing and implementing curriculum and lesson plans for Preschool classrooms
Cleared Portable Background Check

Training Requirements:
Willing to complete the following training before employment begins.

Completed Child Care Basics
First Aid
CPR
Bloodborne Pathogens
Food Handlers License

Nice to Have

Bachelor’s Degree or Higher in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Education, Home Economics, Music, Art, Library Science, Physical Education & Recreation, Psychology, Family Studies, or other Early Childhood Education/Development related fields
Experience teaching art, STEM, movement, and/or language classes
