Full Job Description

Job Overview
This position entails overseeing the daily operations on job sites, ensuring that projects are completed efficiently and within the allocated timeframes and budgets. Responsible for the complete field operations of all projects, acting as a leader, recruiter and coach/trainer. The leadership displayed by this individual is critical to the company’s performance. Although primary attention will be toward the performance of field tasks, the Service Manager will also manage the interaction of subcontractors to meet project goals. As a link between the VP of Operations, Project Managers and Foreman/Superintendent, the Service Manager ensures the scope of the work falls within all parameters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each of the primary duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

1. Actively plan, execute, monitor and reschedule (as needed) field activities to manage project completion to scheduled commitments. This includes the authority to direct daily schedules and overtime needed to maintain project schedules.

2. Organizes and manages projects and tasks while consulting with Management to ensure company objectives are met.

3. Responsible to ensure that the Foreman/Superintendent is holding the crews to the standards of the trade workmanship.

4. Responsible for all employment aspects to maintain a skilled field workforce capable of carrying out the field tasks of the company. This includes interviewing job applicants for all field positions, hiring, training, motivation, promotions, discipline and terminations as needed.

5. Continuously coordinate plans and plan changes with Project Management team and Operations team to ensure resource alignment to meet schedule commitments.

6. Monitor project budget performance alongside the Project Management team and make needed adjustments to assure project completion within the budget.

7. Develop, deploy, operate and continuously improve technical training and certification programs for all field operations team members.

8. Provides site management, sequencing strategies and production strategies to meet goals. Supports the vision and strategy of Project Managers by providing manpower and equipment needed to carry out construction tasks. Contributes to project strategies during the planning and design phases.

9. Manages Foreman/Superintendent and crews (as needed) to effectively meet project goals.

10. Oversees all day-to-day job site activities or delegated to Foreman/Superintendent or Technicians.

11. Participates in internal meetings to facilitate the coordination of important issues.

12. Promotes continuous improvement in both staff and technical areas.

13. Assures all site personnel comply with project procedures, safety protocols, company policies, and other requirements as they occur. Documents all incidents as they occur and notifies Project Manager and VP of Operations. Recommends and implements corrective action.

14. Other duties, as assigned.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Ensures crew submits all required paperwork on a timely routine basis.

2. Exhibits good housekeeping practices in all work areas.

3. Performs daily walkthroughs of project/work site on an as needed basis to confirm availability and use of proper materials and tools; recognizes and promptly addresses issues so that work can continue scheduled.

4. Collaborating with Project Managers to allocate field resources to balance project requirements.

5. Be the primary point of contact for the Foreman/Superintendent and VP of Operations regarding jobs.

6. Verbally collaborate on daily/weekly work plan with PM and VP of Operations.

7. Manage equipment and material inventory for all awarded projects.

8. Ability to work in the field when necessary.

9. Work to increase team efficiency and uphold high standards of safety at all times.

10. Availability during regular business hours in addition to after hours in cases of emergency service as appropriate.

Qualifications / Education / Skills and Experience:

1. Demonstrate industrial construction/maintenance history experience.

2. Demonstrate knowledge of the pipe fitting processes for industrial piping and boiler components for any boiler system.

3. Must have 10+ years’ experience with the pipe fitting processes or boiler tech and 3+ years’ experience in a supervisory role on a job site.

4. Able to manage a crew from 1 to 15.

5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

6. Must be self-motivated and punctual.

7. Must be able to multi-task and have excellent follow up skills both internally and externally.

8. Must be professional in appearance and speech.

9. Organization and time management.

10. Good problem-solving abilities.

11. Good aptitude and manual dexterity.

12. Able to read blueprints and prepare materials lists.

13. Ability to work independently – minimal supervision.

14. Demonstrate ability to lead others and provide detailed instructions.

15. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and manufacturer’s manuals and instructions.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to work in a physically demanding environment, including ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Also requires frequent bending and lifting, standing and walking over uneven terrain or in confined spaces, and safely climb ladders.
