Full Job Description

Job Overview
Hiram Farm is a nonprofit day program serving adults with autism and other developmental disabilities through meaningful work, relationship-centered support, and hands-on engagement in a working organic farm environment. Our farm is both a place of care and a place of purpose—where individuals build skills, confidence, and community through agriculture, arts, and vocational programming.

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a critical role in supporting individuals (“farmers”) as they engage in daily programming across the farm. DSPs model and teach job tasks, support personal goals, ensure safety, and foster a respectful, inclusive environment. This is an active, hands-on role that blends human services with farm-based and vocational programming. The Lead DSP serves as a mentor and supervisor of a Home Base (assigned area of interest for farmers, such as Animal Care, Crafts, or Garden).

Responsibilities

Provide direct support to adults with autism and developmental disabilities in a farm-based day program
Model, teach, and support meaningful work tasks related to farming, gardening, animal care, food preparation, arts, and daily routines
Foster independence, skill development, and personal growth
Support communication, social interaction, and community participation
Maintain a safe, respectful, and structured environment
Assist with daily transitions and outdoor work in varying weather
Collaborate with team members and leadership
Uphold organizational policies and ethical standards

Experience

Prior experience working in assisted living, nursing homes, hospice care, home health, or long-term care settings is preferred.
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism is highly valued.
Knowledge of patient monitoring techniques including vital signs measurement and dementia or Alzheimer’s care is advantageous.
Certifications such as CPR and First Aid are preferred; ongoing training will be provided if necessary.
Familiarity with medication administration protocols and care planning processes is beneficial.
Experience working within HIPAA guidelines ensures confidentiality and privacy are maintained at all times. Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25.0 – 40.0 per week
