Under minimal supervision, the Clinical Informaticist II positively influences health care delivery and patient care outcomes, promotes quality initiatives and makes efficient use of resources. Assists the Director/Manager Clinical Informatics (CI) in the development of tactical plans for both the CI department and assigned service line(s) Clinical Information Systems (CIS) components in support of overall UAB Medicine’s goals. The Clinical Informaticist II is responsible for the delivery of design and support services to assigned CI service line(s) (clinical, quality, training/testing, &/or analytics) to foster collaboration and coordination of patient care across the continuum through the design of processes/workflows, CIS planning, implementation, and end user support. He/she applies informatics practice expertise to design and deliver CI service standards and methods in alignment with professional standards of clinical and business practice.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Serves as a Clinical Informatics design and support consultant in the life-cycle of CIS solutions
2. Utilizes critical analysis to plan, problem solve, and mitigate risk in the deployment of CIS solutions and related processes.
3. Delivers the CI design and end user support functions to demonstrate effectiveness of processes, and identify potential areas for improvement, including:

5. Workflow mapping, evaluation and design Information flow design End user needs assessment and functional requirements definition CI team assignment planning. CI end user support planning and delivery

7 . Functions as a Clinical Informatics expert and collaborates with appropriate audiences to enhance use and efficiency of CIS.
8. Collaborates with the CI Quality team in the development and execution of learning and performance plans.
9. Provides consultation and problem resolution support in conjunction with implementation teams and project managers for design and end user support measure(s) of success definition for the deployment and value realization of CIS solutions.

11. Champions and Engages in Adoption efforts for CIS implementations and upgrades
12. Recognizes the impact of change and strategically supports communication and education efforts.
13. Effectively participates in system-wide cross-functional teams in a matrix reporting structure, as well as, supports collaboration and champions evidence based CIS best practices methods and solutions.
14. Establishes credibility among stakeholders. Assists project teams in realizing expected improvements through her/his engagement on the execution of CIS operational and tactical plans
15. In collaboration with the CI Quality team, contributes to the development of and adheres to CI quality controls and processes for capacity planning, work effort outcome metrics and reporting, communications, knowledge management, and learning.
16. Facilitates effective use of clinical information and technology to ensure optimal data integrity
17. Participates in post implementation change evaluation and supports users in maintaining changed work flow and technological processes.
18. Independently conduct analysis and develop action plans as needed to support data accuracy and integrity.
19. Develops and coordinates a follow-up process to assure documentation compliance for new clinical staff. Participates in the QA process to demonstrate effectiveness of process and identify potential areas for improvement.
20. Contributes to the development, execution, and evaluation of testing, training and end user support.
21. May, per role assignment, deliver end user training including, but not limited to, existing and new clinical applications, clinical system upgrades and other changes, new employee orientation, and just-in-time learning as required.
22. Partners with clinical, HSIS, and other departments/teams to develop and distribute clinical system or workflow related communications and documents.
23. Collaborates with Clinical Informatics leaders, education departments, nursing educators and other groups to develop end user training, and testing/training plans.
24. Consulted on clinical informatics planning and service delivery for clinical information system upgrades and downtime events.
25. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare/Informatics/Business field, 3 years Informatics and 3 years Healthcare experience. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Health Care Delivery and Informatics.
Preferred: Master’s degree Healthcare/Informatics/Business. Licenses / Certifications / Registrations Required: If has an earned healthcare/clinical degree (i.e. RN, Radiology, etc.), will maintain current State of Alabama licensure commensurate with degree. Attainment of certification in an Informatics related healthcare field (i.e. Project Management, Quality, Informatics, Training) within 2 years of assuming role.
Preferred: Professional Certification in Clinical Informatics, Healthcare Quality, and/or Training Supervisory Responsibilities
