Lead the Voice of Business in Interior Alaska

The Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce is seeking a proven executive leader to serve as its next President and Chief Executive Officer.

This is an opportunity to lead one of Alaska’s most influential regional business organizations at an important time for Interior Alaska. The Chamber represents a diverse membership of nearly 600 businesses and organizations and serves as a trusted advocate, convener, and strategic partner for the regional business community.

The President and CEO is the Chamber’s chief executive, lead advocate, primary spokesperson, and senior relationship builder. Working with the Board of Directors, the CEO translates the Chamber’s mission and strategic priorities into measurable results while ensuring strong organizational systems, accountability, and financial discipline.

The next CEO will join an organization with an engaged Board, committed staff, strong community relationships, respected advocacy programs, and established signature events. The Board is focused on strengthening internal systems, staff development, financial reporting, strategic execution, member value, and long-term revenue stability.

Immediate Leadership Priorities

The next President and CEO will be expected to:

Strengthen organizational systems, accountability, and performance reporting
Develop and lead a high-performing staff team
Ensure strong financial stewardship and sustainable revenue growth
Strengthen membership engagement, recruitment, retention, and value
Advance a credible, nonpartisan, pro-business advocacy agenda
Build productive relationships with business leaders, elected officials, military partners, Alaska Native organizations, educators, media, and community stakeholders
Maintain a visible and credible presence throughout the Fairbanks business community

Scope of Leadership

The President and CEO provides executive leadership in the following areas:

Strategic and operational planning
Administration and staff management
Board and committee relations
Advocacy and public policy
External relations and partnerships
Communications, marketing, and media relations
Financial management and organizational sustainability
Revenue development
Membership growth and value

The CEO serves as a non-voting member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee and performs the duties assigned to the position under the Chamber’s bylaws.

Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate should bring:

Significant senior leadership experience in business, nonprofit, government, public affairs, economic development, a membership organization, or a related environment
Experience working effectively with a governing board and maintaining clear distinctions between governance and management
Proven success leading staff, setting expectations, developing talent, managing performance, and building a healthy workplace culture
Experience managing an organizational or departmental budget of at least $1 million
Demonstrated success generating revenue through membership, sponsorships, events, partnerships, grants, fundraising, or other earned-income strategies
Experience building productive relationships with business leaders, elected officials, community partners, media, and diverse constituencies
Ability to navigate legislative, regulatory, and political processes; direct advocacy or public policy experience is strongly preferred
Strong written, public speaking, media, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills

A bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, communications, political science, nonprofit management, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent education, executive leadership experience, and demonstrated achievement may be considered.

Compensation & Benefits

The Chamber offers a competitive compensation package that includes:

Base salary: $140,000 to $180,000, depending on qualifications and experience
Eligibility for an annual performance incentive
Relocation assistance, which may be available as part of the final compensation package
Medical, dental, and vision coverage, with the Chamber paying 75% of employee premiums
SIMPLE IRA with an employer match of up to 3% of eligible compensation
Four weeks of combined paid time off annually
Paid holidays and floating holidays

This is a full-time, Fairbanks-based executive position. The role requires occasional early-morning, evening, and weekend commitments, along with periodic travel within and outside Alaska.

The President and CEO is an at-will employee of the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce.
