Full Job Description

Job Summary

Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Certified Phlebotomist, where you will play a vital role in patient care by expertly collecting blood samples and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis. Your enthusiasm and precision will ensure accurate testing results, contributing directly to patient diagnosis and treatment. Responsibilities

Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all ages, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
Correctly identify patients using approved patient identification procedures.
Label, process, and prepare specimens for testing and transport according to laboratory protocols.
Ensures specimen integrity by following proper collection, handling, storage, and transportation procedures.
Enter laboratory orders accurately into the electronic health record (EHR) and laboratory information system.
Verify physician/provider orders prior to specimen collection.
Perform waived laboratory testing within the scope of practice and organizational policies, if applicable.
Maintain inventory or laboratory supplies and notify the supervisor when supplies require replenishment.
Clean, disinfect, and maintain phlebotomy equipment and work areas according to infection control standards.
Follow all OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and maintain patient confidentiality.
Provide compassionate, culturally sensitive care to diverse patient populations
Respond professionally to patient concerns and difficult venipunctures while maintaining patient comfort and safety.
Assist with quality assurance activities, specimen tracking, and laboratory audits.
Participate in performance improvement initiatives and maintain required competencies.
Maintain required certifications and complete mandatory training.
Perform other related duties as assigned, including providing coverage at other Watts Healthcare Corporation clinics, as needed.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required
Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Training Program
Must successfully complete HIV training and certification within the first three months of employment
Two to Three (2-3) years of phlebotomy experience
Experience in an outpatient clinic, community health center, or FQHC preferred.
Experience with electronic health records (EHR) preferred.
Current California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT I) license required· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of venipuncture techniques and specimen collection procedures
Knowledge of CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and infection prevention standards.
Ability to work with patients from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Basic computer proficiency, including EHR systems and Microsoft Office.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Bilingual – English/Spanish, preferred
