Full Job Description

Senior School Lead

General Statement of Duties

As the Senior School Lead, the employee provides strategic leadership, supervision, and coaching for a team of Governance Consultants/School Leads while also serving as a governance consultant and advisor to a portfolio of charter public schools. The Senior School Lead maintains a reduced portfolio of schools, serving as the client's primary liaison for those schools and modeling best practices in governance consulting and portfolio management. The Senior School Lead is also responsible for maintaining strong internal and external client relationships.

This full-time position is responsible for ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality governance consulting and portfolio management services across client schools. The Senior School Lead serves as a subject matter expert in charter school authorizing and charter school board governance. Through servant leadership, coaching, and mentoring, the Senior School Lead builds the capacity of the Governance Consultants/School Leads and fosters a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, accountability, and exceptional client service.

The Senior School Lead ensures that the team educates and supports school boards to govern effectively and strategically to ensure academic performance, organizational viability, and compliance with charter contracts and applicable law. The Senior School Lead ensures that team members maintain awareness of school activities and critical issues, assist in developing individual school support plans, and coaches team members in promoting school strengths and addressing areas for improvement.

The Senior School Lead is also responsible for cultivating long-term relationships with client schools by providing effective team leadership, exceptional service, demonstrating deep expertise, anticipating client needs, and serving as a trusted advisor. Success in this role is measured not only by compliance and governance outcomes but also by the strength of client relationships, client satisfaction, and the consistent delivery of high-quality consulting services.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, preferably in Education, Public Administration, Business, Nonprofit Leadership, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in charter schools, charter school authorizing, educational leadership, governance consulting, or nonprofit governance.
Minimum of three years of supervisory or leadership experience, including coaching and developing professional staff.
Demonstrated expertise in charter school board governance, charter school authorizing, and board development.
Experience in administrative and leadership roles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
Positive, professional attitude.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop others.
Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with school leaders, board members, authorizers, and staff.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Ability to travel extensively.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Development

Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop a team of Governance Consultants/School Leads.
Build the capacity of team members through regular coaching, performance feedback, and professional development.
Conduct performance evaluations.
Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture built on servant leadership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Ensure consistency in governance consulting practices, reporting, and client service across the team.
Assist with hiring, onboarding, and developing new Governance Consultants.
Serve as a resource for staff in resolving complex governance, compliance, and school leadership issues.
Oversee the client’s board member nomination and appointment process, making recommendations for improvement when appropriate.

School Portfolio Responsibilities

Maintain a reduced portfolio of charter public schools, serving as the governance consultant and primary liaison for assigned schools.
Monitor and study individual school performance in the areas of governance, academic performance, fiscal stewardship, organizational viability, and compliance with charter contracts and applicable law, and report findings to the client.
Help develop individualized school plans to facilitate oversight, promote strengths, and address areas for improvement.
Communicate progress and outcomes of school plans through weekly, quarterly, and annual reports.
When required, monitor that schools develop and implement plans to remedy identified deficiencies in meeting contractual goals.
Maintain a pulse on school activities and on-the-ground awareness of critical issues.
Attend board meetings and conduct school site visits to build mutual trust and ensure clear, concise, and consistent communication of client expectations.
Conduct board candidate interviews and make recommendations to clients.
Contribute recommendations to support charter renewal and reauthorization decisions.

Governance and Authorizing Leadership

Serve as an expert in charter school board governance and charter school authorizing.
Provide guidance to Governance Consultants and clients on complex governance and compliance matters.
Develop governance resources, training materials, and best practices for school boards
Support Governance Consultants in addressing governance challenges, board development, leadership transitions, and organizational issues.

Organizational Leadership

Work closely with the client manager, implementing client protocols and providing updates and reports as required.
Communicate developments in the field to client manager and staff, as appropriate.
Attend professional programs and conferences to increase knowledge of current trends and best practices and represent the client at external events.
Exercise discretion and independent judgment in advising assigned client.
Provide updates and reports to Schu Consultancy Services as required by the President.
Provide recommendations to improve organizational effectiveness, governance consulting practices, and client services.
Collaborate with the President in advancing the strategic goals and mission of Schu Consultancy Services.
Collaborate with the client’s departmental managers to ensure seamlessness of authorizing activities.

Client Relations

Serve as a senior relationship manager for assigned clients of Schu Consultancy Services.
Ensure exceptional client service through responsive communication, sound governance advice, and proactive problem-solving.
Regularly assess client satisfaction and identify opportunities to strengthen relationships and improve services.
Anticipate client needs and provide strategic guidance that supports effective governance and long-term organizational success.
Partner with clients to address complex governance, leadership, compliance, and organizational challenges.
Represent Schu Consultancy Services with professionalism, integrity, and responsiveness in all client interactions.
Ensure consistent delivery of services across all Governance Consultants to maintain the organization's reputation for excellence.
Develop long-term partnerships that encourage client retention and continued engagement with Schu Consultancy Services.

Pay: $93,500.00 - $125,000.00 per year
