Full Job Description

Compass North COP Caseworker

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will provide community, school, home, and street-based outreach services to youth who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness or runaway situations.

The Case Worker will work collaboratively with agencies, youth, families, and host homes to ensure all enrollment and compliance documentation is completed timely.

This is a hybrid position requiring initial training, case management training and job shadowing at the designated regional office located in Alpena, Michigan. Following supervisor approval, the employee will transition to a home-based work model while conducting field services throughout Otsego, Cheboygan, Presque Isle and surrounding Counties.

Residence in or near Gaylord, Michigan is preferred.

Qualifications:

Applicants must meet one of the following:

· Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services (Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Counseling, or related field); OR

· Associate’s Degree in a Human Services field plus a minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in youth services, child welfare, homelessness services, behavioral health, or related field; OR

· High School Diploma/GED plus a minimum of five (5) years of full-time professional experience in the human services field.

Additional Requirements:

· CPR/First Aid Certification required within 3 months of hire and maintained every 2 years

· Clean criminal and Central Registry histories

· Valid driver’s license and good driving record

· Reliable transportation and ability to travel extensively within assigned counties

· Ability to maintain a secure, private, and confidential home workspace with reliable internet

· Experience working with children/adolescents and families preferred

Summary of Essential Job Function:

Develop positive working relationships with community partners and external agencies that serve the homeless population to promote the best possible service to youth
Provide crisis intervention, information and referrals services to runaway and home youth and youth at risk of homelessness.
Provide case management services to run-away and homeless youth and youth at risk of homelessness
Educate homeless youth about independent living skills
Provide community education services on youth issues, including but not limited to homelessness issues, bullying and advocacy
Promote smooth coordination of services and clear communication patterns
Participate actively in supervisory meetings, staff meetings, conferences and workshops designed to enhance skills and communicate information
Maintain complete files in accordance with Agency, DHHS and state and federal policy requirements
Keep files current and up to date through uploading documentation into HMIS timely
Respect the confidentiality rights of clients by maintaining locked files and keeping all confidential information locked up
Contribute to overall quality assurance program and practices to maintain compliance with state and federal standards
Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills
Be knowledgeable of external community resources
Participate in department and agency outreach and fundraising events
Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor which fall within the parameters of the described role.

Work Environment:

This position requires both fieldwork and administrative responsibilities.

The employee will:

Complete required in-office training
Transition to home-based administrative work after approval
Conduct extensive travel throughout the assigned service areas
Work with youth and families in potentially high-stress or crisis environments

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This position requires walking, standing, sitting, bending, and lifting objects up to 40 lbs. The job can be emotionally stressful, with frequent crises and deadlines. It requires a valid driver’s license and extensive day and occasional evening driving throughout assigned counties. One must be prepared for long and irregular work hours. It requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range, necessary to observe consumer/family interaction. One must be able to communicate adequately with clients, host families, and other professionals, and provide in-home services to youth and families where the homes may not be barrier free.

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
