Most people see a posting like this and picture basic intake or front-desk work. This is none of that. Here's what it actually is.

If you've worked at a family law firm before, in intake, billing, or client care, you already know what this role actually involves. You're not "just answering phones." You're the first voice a woman hears when she's been holding things together for months. You're often the person keeping the firm's billing running, too. And at most firms, you've been treated like the desk you sit at instead of the engine you actually are. This role takes that work seriously. The pay reflects it. The bonus structure reflects it. The growth path reflects it.

ABOUT AFTA

AFTA is a Texas family law firm with offices in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin. We were founded by Gianni Avalos, the attorney behind Single Mom Attorney, one of the largest legal-education platforms for women navigating family law. Aside from strong advocacy, our firm exists to empathize, empower, and help educate the families we represent.

ON THE FIRST CALL

A woman who has been thinking about divorce for six months finally picks up the phone. She might be in her car so her husband can't hear. She might be calm on the outside and terrified underneath. Your job is to meet her where she is. From there, you walk her through her situation, explain the firm's process and billing, quote her appropriately, and help her sign on as a client during that call.

AFTER SHE SIGNS

You onboard her across our systems and connect her with the attorney for her case kickoff call.

ON THE BILLING SIDE

You run the firm's billing process: invoices, trust funds, payments, declines, refunds, admin fees, stored payment methods, etc.

WHEN HER CASE IS FINALIZED

You step back in to make sure the matter is closed across every system, and you coordinate with the attorney and paralegal so nothing slips through the cracks.

There are a lot of workflows here, and they depend on each other. Small misses break things downstream. The right person can hold all of that and still keep the warmth on the phone.

WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS

Most of our clients find us through Single Mom Attorney, the legal-education platform built by our founder, Gianni Avalos. By the time they call us, they already trust who we are. You are the person who confirms that what they saw online matches who we actually are when they need us most. That is not a small job, and we don't treat it like one.

THE NUMBERS

Salary: $60,000 to $75,000 base depending on experience
Per-signing bonus on every new client you sign, paid each paycheck
Quarterly performance bonus and year-end bonus
401(k) with company match
Paid time off and firm holidays
BCBS medical, dental, vision, life insurance
9 to 5, Monday through Friday, based at our Houston office, with 1 to 2 work-from-home days after your 90-day probation
Comprehensive paid training

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Family law firm experience is required. You've worked at a family law firm in intake, billing, or client care, and you know how this world works.
Warm, calm, attentive phone presence. You meet callers where they are.
Ability to follow complex, multi-step workflows precisely. You're the kind of person who notices when a checkbox isn't checked.
Tech adaptability. You don't need to know Clio or Monday already, but you pick up new systems fast.
Comfort with money and numbers. No accounting degree required, but you need to be precise.
Genuine care for the clients we serve. Most are mothers going through one of the hardest moments of their lives.
Ambition. This role is a launching pad if you want it to be.
