ABOUT NOTRE DAME CRISTO REY HIGH SCHOOL (NDCR) www.ndcrhs.org:

Established in Lawrence, MA in 2004, NDCR is a private, Catholic, college preparatory high school currently based in Methuen, Massachusetts serving 300 economically disadvantaged youth. NDCR is part of the Cristo Rey Network, a growing association of 40 schools across the United States whose education model is built around the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP), a unique and highly successful partnership with the business community. Through the CWSP, each of our scholars works five full days per month during the academic year at one of 75 companies throughout the Merrimack Valley, I-93/495 corridors, and southern New Hampshire.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching:

Full time course load of five classes

Grade 11 (four sections)

Fall Semester: Faith in Action

Our juniors have a required service component and must finish 30 hours of approved community service by January. Campus Ministry keeps track of the service hours, and this first course provides students with space to reflect on the connection between faith and service. A key component of this course to for students to engage in praxis by sharing their experiences of engaging the Gospel in the act of service to others. While we begin with the student the goal is to emphasis the vital role of volunteerism as a powerful force in society and in the life of faith.

Spring Semester: Catholic Social Teaching

In the second semester, the focus is on the tradition of social justice as a core value in our church. It begins with the scriptural foundations of God’s desire for justice found in the Hebrew Scriptures and mission and ministry of Jesus. This entire course challenges students to find ways to build awareness of unjust structures in society that prevent justice, to reflect on how such structures should be challenged and to actively participate in bringing about a world centered in God’s love and justice.

Grade 12 (one section)

Fall Semester: Introduction to Catholic Ethics

In the Fall semester, students examine the foundations of ethical decision making and moral choices in their lives. Using the works of philosophers and theologians, students will explore the themes of conscience, morality, justice, and virtue to formulate what it means to live a good life rooted in faith and justice.

Spring Semester: Facing History and Ourselves[ER1] [ER2] [MD3]

Building on the fall course, the spring semester, students will continue to use the foundational lessons in ethics to focus on the dangers of indifference and the values of civil discourse. In Facing History and Ourselves. Students will explore how our individual moral choices are tied to the choices we make in our shared lives. This course uses the Holocaust and other historical events to understand the crucial role of individuals in the sharing of history and civil society making important connections between past and present.

Resources, materials, and support for all courses are provided.

Other Responsibilities:

▪ Use developmentally and behaviorally age-appropriate tools, materials, activities

▪ Maintain all pertinent records in PowerSchool

▪ Create a safe, purposeful classroom environment that prioritizes learning for all students

▪ Design and create appropriate lesson plans. Implement the Theology Curriculum aligned with the Cristo Rey Standards and USCCB framework

▪ Collaborate with other teachers, instructional leaders, and partners to ensure instruction is meeting the needs of all students

▪ Assess students regularly, analyze data, and determine appropriate next steps for instruction

▪ Build relationships and communicate regularly with students and their families to solicit input and share academic progress

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Teachers must possess:

1) Bachelor’s degree in theology, campus ministry, or a related field, master’s degree preferred

2) Must be a practicing Catholic.

3) Experience teaching in a Catholic high school strongly preferred

4) Willingness to promote the vision and values of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur

5) Knowledgeable, sensitive, and inclusive of all cultures, particularly those served by NDCR

Ability to speak Spanish a plus

SALARY RANGE:

The salary for this position ranges from $44,000–$60,000, based on experience and educational qualifications. Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School offers opportunities for professional growth, leadership development, and increased compensation over time.
