Position Summary
The General Superintendent will provide leadership and operational oversight across multiple construction projects while developing and supporting a team of Superintendents and field leaders.
This individual will partner closely with Project Managers, operations leadership, and executive management to establish consistent field practices, improve project performance, maintain safety and quality standards, and proactively address construction risks.
The General Superintendent will play an important role in shaping field operations as the company continues to grow. The successful candidate will be an experienced commercial construction leader who can balance strategic oversight with hands-on project support.
Preference will be given to candidates who reside in Orange County or surrounding areas.
Key ResponsibilitiesField Operations Leadership
- Provide strategic field leadership across multiple active commercial construction projects.
- Establish consistent expectations, processes, and performance standards for field teams.
- Support Superintendents with project planning, site logistics, sequencing, staffing, safety, quality, and schedule execution.
- Conduct regular project site visits to evaluate progress, identify risks, and provide operational guidance.
- Monitor project performance and help ensure field activities align with company and contractual expectations.
- Assist project teams with resolving complex construction, scheduling, subcontractor, and site coordination challenges.
- Promote consistency and operational excellence throughout the field organization.
- Support project startup, mobilization, execution, closeout, and turnover activities.
Superintendent Leadership and Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Superintendents.
- Provide ongoing mentorship, feedback, and performance guidance to field leaders.
- Support the professional development of Assistant Superintendents and emerging field leadership.
- Help identify training needs and create development plans for field personnel.
- Establish clear expectations regarding leadership, communication, documentation, safety, quality, and accountability.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, assignment, and performance evaluation of field employees.
- Promote career development and succession planning within the field organization.
- Create a culture where Superintendents are supported while remaining accountable for project results.
Project Planning and Execution
- Partner with Project Managers and Superintendents to develop comprehensive project execution plans.
- Review construction schedules, site logistics plans, staffing strategies, procurement requirements, and project milestones.
- Evaluate construction sequencing and identify potential conflicts before they affect project performance.
- Support the development of recovery plans when project activities fall behind schedule.
- Assist teams with managing long-lead materials, subcontractor coordination, inspections, and turnover requirements.
- Review project schedules and confirm they reflect realistic field conditions and construction sequencing.
- Support effective communication between project management and field operations.
- Help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents.
Safety Leadership
- Champion a strong and consistent safety culture across all project sites.
- Reinforce company safety policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Partner with safety leadership and project teams to identify and correct unsafe conditions.
- Support project-specific safety planning and high-risk activity reviews.
- Participate in safety meetings, inspections, incident reviews, and corrective-action planning.
- Ensure Superintendents consistently enforce safety standards among subcontractors and field personnel.
- Promote personal accountability and proactive hazard recognition.
- Help ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable federal, state, local, and client safety requirements.
Quality Management
- Promote consistent quality-control practices across all active projects.
- Support Superintendents in reviewing plans, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and construction details.
- Conduct field observations to evaluate workmanship and compliance with contract documents.
- Assist project teams with resolving quality concerns and preventing recurring deficiencies.
- Help establish project-specific quality expectations and inspection procedures.
- Support punch-list management, commissioning, closeout, and final turnover.
- Encourage early identification of constructability concerns and coordination conflicts.
- Promote continuous improvement through lessons learned and project performance reviews.
Scheduling and Resource Coordination
- Review master project schedules and short-term look-ahead schedules.
- Assist teams with construction sequencing, manpower planning, material delivery coordination, and subcontractor scheduling.
- Identify schedule risks and recommend corrective or recovery strategies.
- Evaluate field staffing requirements across multiple projects.
- Support the assignment and allocation of Superintendents and other field personnel.
- Coordinate with project leadership to address changing project conditions and resource needs.
- Monitor critical milestones and support teams in protecting contractual completion dates.
- Help ensure field schedules align with procurement, inspections, commissioning, and closeout requirements.
Risk Management and Problem-Solving
- Identify operational, schedule, safety, quality, subcontractor, and constructability risks.
- Partner with Project Managers and Superintendents to develop practical mitigation strategies.
- Assist teams in resolving complex field conditions, subcontractor disputes, and coordination conflicts.
- Escalate material project risks to executive leadership when appropriate.
- Support documentation of delays, changed conditions, and potential contractual impacts.
- Help project teams make informed decisions based on schedule, cost, quality, and client considerations.
- Promote proactive planning instead of reactive problem-solving.
- Participate in project reviews and lessons-learned discussions.
Client and Stakeholder Relationships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Represent the company professionally during project meetings and site interactions.
- Support project teams in managing client expectations and resolving field concerns.
- Maintain open and constructive communication with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
- Assist with sensitive or high-level project discussions when executive field leadership is required.
- Help protect long-term client relationships through reliable project delivery.
- Promote collaborative and solutions-oriented interactions among all project participants.
Operational Improvement
- Evaluate existing field procedures and recommend improvements.
- Develop standardized practices that improve safety, quality, schedule performance, documentation, and accountability.
- Support the implementation of company-wide field operations initiatives.
- Participate in strategic planning related to organizational growth and project delivery.
- Use project performance data and field feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Help create repeatable processes that support consistent project execution.
- Promote knowledge sharing across project teams.
- Support the continued development of the company’s field leadership structure.
Qualifications
- At least 10 years of progressive commercial construction experience.
- Previous experience as a Senior Superintendent, General Superintendent, Area Superintendent, or comparable field leadership professional.
- Experience overseeing large, complex, or multiple concurrent construction projects.
- Proven success leading, coaching, and developing Superintendents and other field leaders.
- Strong knowledge of commercial construction means and methods.
- Advanced understanding of construction scheduling, sequencing, site logistics, safety, and quality control.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, subcontracts, and project schedules.
- Demonstrated ability to identify field risks and develop effective solutions.
- Strong understanding of subcontractor coordination and performance management.
- Ability to communicate effectively with executives, Project Managers, Superintendents, clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Excellent leadership, relationship-building, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong organizational and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and growing organization.
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout the Western United States.

- OSHA 30 certification
