Job Summary
The Senior Director of Equity, Engagement, and Compliance provides leadership to strengthen relationships among the Anchorage School District, students, families, employees, and the broader community while fostering an inclusive and respectful organizational culture. The position leads districtwide efforts related to community engagement, organizational culture, equal employment opportunity (EEO), and civil rights compliance, ensuring district practices support student success and meet federal and state requirements.
Job Requirements
The following are required:

A type B Alaska administrative certificate or eligible to complete certification within six months of hire, OR a bachelor's degree in education, or a major in a social science field with significant coursework in education.

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in education, public administration, compliance, human resources, employee relations, or a related field.

Experience developing collaborative partnerships with students, families, community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build productive relationships with employees, students, families, community partners, government agencies, and individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Knowledge of organizational leadership, change management, and federal and state laws and regulations related to civil rights, equal employment opportunity, and nondiscrimination, including Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX.

Demonstrated experience conducting or overseeing workplace, student, or civil rights investigations and interpreting applicable laws, regulations, and district policy.

Strong written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills.

Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships, supervise and develop staff, and build a cohesive team.

Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate organizational, compliance, climate, and program data to support continuous improvement and informed decision making.
The following are preferred:

A master's degree in education, organizational leadership, public administration, or a related field.

Training or experience in mediation, conflict resolution, or restorative practices.

Experience leading community engagement initiatives or facilitating partnerships with diverse stakeholder groups.
Essential Job Functions
Community Engagement and Partnerships

Represents ASD at community meetings, advisory groups, and public events related to community engagement, civil rights, accessibility, and inclusive educational practices.

Serves as leader of ASD's Volunteer and Community Engagement programs.

Works with and assists in the coordination of the Multicultural Education Concerns Advisory Committee (MECAC).

Works with Academic Services and the English Language Learners Department to ensure a comprehensive language access plan is in place for students, parents, and community members.

Advocates for families and students from under-represented groups in ASD.

Collaborates with the Talent Management Department in identifying and implementing culturally responsive recruitment and retention initiatives
Leadership and Organizational Culture

Supports district initiatives that promote equitable access, inclusive practices, and compliance with federal and state civil rights requirements in alignment with the district's strategic plan.

Collaborates with district departments to support leadership development and student opportunity initiatives that promote equitable access and participation.

Collaborates with district leadership to support equitable access to specialized, lottery, and application-based educational opportunities.

Coordinates with Secondary Education and Teaching and Learning to employ strategies to increase participation of underrepresented students in advanced coursework, as well as expand College, Career, and Life Readiness opportunities for all students.

Creates and facilitates workshops and professional development related to civil rights compliance, cultural responsiveness, accessibility, nondiscrimination, inclusive practices, and belonging.

Provides guidance to district staff on culturally responsive practices, inclusive decision making, and compliance with district policies and applicable laws.

Supports faculty in managing complex conversations with students and families.
Civil Rights and Compliance

Serves as ASD's coordinator for Title IX.

Serves as a resource to district leaders regarding Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, language access, and other civil rights requirements.

Consults with school and department leaders regarding civil rights compliance, accessibility, inclusion, and related district initiatives.

Coordinates district sign language interpreter services to ensure effective communication and compliance with ADA requirements.

Coordinates responses to requests for civil rights, accessibility, demographic, and compliance related information and reports.
Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
