An automotive manufacturing facility located in Des Moines, Iowa, is seeking a full-time Packaging & Assembly Line Lead to join our high-performance team. The Packaging & Assembly Line Lead is responsible for coordinating daily packaging and assembly operations across multiple production lines. This is a hands-on leadership position that serves as the primary support to the Packaging & Assembly Supervisor.

Putco’s 140,000 Sq. Ft. facility in Des Moines, Iowa, includes 15,000 Sq. Ft dedicated to product research and design. This is where we design, test, install, and improve our products. Our R&D department is fully staffed and equipped with high-caliber design software, machinery, tools, and workspace. Additionally, Putco has a fleet of vehicles in-house for testing purposes along with relationships with several local dealers to ensure our product fits properly on all makes and models.
Our 60,000sq. Ft. of manufacturing space includes state-of-the-art equipment to support the aspirations of our design team, innovation of our product line, and consistent fitment of the product. This facility supports product manufacturing for Ford, GM, Mopar, Nissan, Chrysler, and more.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Production Coordination
- Assist the Packaging & Assembly Supervisor in executing daily production schedules.
- Lead employees across multiple packaging and assembly lines.
- Communicate daily production priorities and assignments to team members.
- Monitor production progress and identify potential bottlenecks.
- Help ensure production goals, deadlines, and quality standards are achieved.
Material Handling & Forklift Operation
- Retrieve raw materials and production components from warehouse locations.
- Supply production lines with materials needed to maintain efficient operations.
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and effectively.
- Coordinate movement of finished goods, packaging materials, and raw inventory throughout the facility.
- Maintain organized material staging areas.
Inventory & Supply Monitoring
- Monitor non-inventory consumable items used in production and notify the correct people when supplies are running low in order to prevent downtime
- Assist with inventory accuracy and organization.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide daily direction and support to Packaging & Assembly Technicians.
- Train new employees on procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and productivity.
- Lead by example through attendance, work ethic, and professionalism.
- Communicate employee concerns and production issues to the Supervisor.
Quality Assurance
- Conduct routine quality checks throughout production.
- Verify products are assembled and packaged according to specifications.
- Identify and report quality concerns, defects, and process issues.
- Support corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
Safety & Housekeeping
- Promote a safe working environment.
- Ensure team members follow company safety procedures.
- Maintain clean and organized production and warehouse areas.
- Report safety concerns, equipment issues, or workplace hazards.
Qualifications
- Manufacturing, assembly, packaging, or warehouse experience required.
- Previous leadership, trainer, or lead experience preferred.
- Ability to read and understand Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced production environment.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to operate forklifts and material handling equipment.
- Ability to work in warehouse and manufacturing environments.
Success in This Role
· A successful Packaging & Assembly Line Lead keeps production lines running efficiently, ensures materials are available before work begins, supports team members across multiple lines, maintains quality standards, and serves as a reliable extension of the Packaging & Assembly Supervisor.
