Full Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacist with the preparation of prescriptions for patients and general pharmacy operations. In addition to pharmacy responsibilities, this position is responsible for assisting in the patient insurance eligibility verification process, patient authorizations, claims processing, billing support, and front office filing and telephone responsibilities.

MINIMUM COMPETENCIES:

1. State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license – License must be current and in good standing. Maintenance of active license (ie, obtaining of continuing education) is the responsibility of the technician.

2. High school diploma or equivalent required; 2 years college preferred.

3. 2 years of related experience preferred.

4. Follow established procedures.

5. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn dispensation and inventory software.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists the pharmacist with preparation of daily medication shipments

2. Retrieves medications from shelf, counts medications and labels containers under the direct supervision of the pharmacist.

3. Enters medication information and directions on patient profile into dispensation software.

4. Receives written prescriptions from providers and verifies that information required on a prescription is complete.

5. Answers the telephone and may take requests for a prescription refill from a patient or parent.

6. Tracks deliveries and follows up on all shipments.

7. Orders and replaces non-factor stock or supplies in the pharmacy under supervision.

8. Process confidential information.

9. Assists the pharmacist with preparation of medications after hours.

10. Assists with authorizations and other patient insurance issues such as eligibility verification and billing support.

11. Orders factor product as needed under supervision.

12. Special projects

13. Conducts inventory count monthly and reports results to the Pharmacist-in-Charge and Associate Director or designee.

14. Other office duties as assigned (claims processing, telephones, filing, mailings and miscellaneous accounting functions)

15. Participates in Performance Improvement programs as needed.

16. Participate in the reporting, investigation, resolution, and corrective action process as needed.

17. Provides weekend on-call services in accordance with the schedule determined by Cascade.

Essential Functions of the Job. While performing the duties of this role, the employee must be able to:

· Remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods while preparing prescriptions, entering data, and performing administrative tasks.

· Move about the pharmacy and office to retrieve medications, supplies, and documentation.

· Operate standard office and pharmacy equipment, including computers, phones, fax machines, scanners, and dispensing software.

· Communicate clearly and professionally with pharmacists, patients, healthcare providers, insurance representatives, and colleagues.

· Accurately handle, count, label, and prepare medications with attention to detail and safety.

· Lift and carry items such as medication shipments, supply boxes, or files weighing up to 40 lbs.

Pay: $19.04 - $31.62 per hour
