Full Job Description

Job Summary

is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and experienced Receptionist / Prior Authorization Specialist to join our growing team. This is a dual-role position ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced medical office and enjoys balancing exceptional patient service with insurance authorization responsibilities.

This is not an entry-level position. Candidates must have previous experience obtaining authorizations for medications, diagnostic imaging, and interventional pain management procedures.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

ResponsibilitiesReception Duties

Greet patients in a friendly, professional manner
Answer multi-line phone system and direct calls appropriately
Schedule and confirm appointments
Verify insurance eligibility and demographic information
Collect co-pays and balances
Scan and upload documents into the EMR
Maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA)
Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining efficiency

Prior Authorization Duties

Obtain prior authorizations for:
Interventional pain procedures
MRI, CT, X-ray, and other diagnostic imaging
Medications
Submit authorizations electronically and via payer portals
Communicate with insurance companies regarding authorization status
Appeal denied authorizations when appropriate
Track pending authorizations and ensure timely completion
Coordinate with providers and clinical staff regarding required documentation
Maintain accurate authorization documentation within the EMR

Qualifications

Required

Minimum 3 years of recent medical prior authorization experience
Experience obtaining authorizations for:
Interventional pain management procedures
Diagnostic imaging
Prescription medications
Minimum 3 years of medical receptionist experience
Strong understanding of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and payer portals
Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Strong organizational and prioritization abilities
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced specialty practice
High attention to detail
Reliable attendance and punctuality
Self-directed with the ability to work independently
Professional demeanor and positive attitude

Preferred

Experience in Interventional Pain Management
Knowledge of Medicare Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs)
Experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW) or similar EMR
Medical terminology knowledge
