Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accountant (Degree in Finance/Accounting) located in Maryland or DC to join our finance team! In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing a wide range of accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and maintaining accurate financial records. Your expertise will support the organization’s financial health through meticulous bookkeeping, account reconciliation, and financial analysis. Duties

Support the Treasurer/Assistant Treasurer per his/her requests
Liaison with bookkeeper for input and controls
Prepare and review journal entries, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards such as GAAP and SOX compliance.
Perform balance sheet reconciliations and account analysis to verify the integrity of financial data.
Manage accounts payable and receivable processes utilizing QuickBooks
Conduct month-end closing activities, including general ledger accounting and financial statement preparation.
Handle confidential information with integrity while maintaining precise data entry and bookkeeping practices.
Support internal audits by preparing documentation related to governmental accounting standards and internal controls.
Preparation of Annual Reports (Fed, State and others)
Preparation of expense budgets if requested
Audit contacts (Independent CPAs, and others)
Tax Returns (prepared by CPA, help with prep, payment, and filing
Maintenance of existing internal control procedures
Become familiar with brokerage accounts
Routine reconciliations - bank accounts and investment accounts, reports and analysis
Office Manager (Admin Duties) - Follow existing workflows and documents for ongoing operational processes needed for business continuity; become familiar with existing centralized cloud-based filing system for scanned and electronic documents; maintain all records, staff to Board of Directors and meetings; familiar with AV equipment; Minutes; website updates; "Go to person" for all administrative duties

EXPERIENCE

Proven accounting experience (5 years) in a corporate or governmental setting, with familiarity in public accounting preferred as well as investment accounting
Strong knowledge of financial concepts including debits & credits, double-entry bookkeeping, and account reconciliation techniques.
Hands-on experience and proficiency with Quickbooks; Excel data analysis is somewhat important.
Demonstrated ability to perform detailed account analysis, balance sheet reconciliation, and journal entries accurately.
Excellent numeracy skills combined with strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Knowledge of tax regulations, non-profit accounting practices , and technical accounting standards such as GAAP or government-specific guidelines.Join us in delivering exceptional financial services through meticulous accounting practices!
