Sailor’s Dog Walking & Pet Care is a professional, award-winning pet care company serving Annapolis and surrounding areas. We provide reliable, personalized dog walking, pet sitting, cat care, speciality visits, and overnight care.
We are looking for a dependable, experienced, and flexible Pet Care Specialist to join our team in an as-needed/relief capacity.
This position is ideal for someone who wants flexible supplemental work and enjoys working with animals but does not need a guaranteed full-time schedule.
About the Role
Our As-Needed Pet Care Specialist helps provide coverage when our regular team members are unavailable or when our schedule becomes especially busy.
You may be called upon to help with:
- Dog walks
- Pet sitting and drop-in visits
- Cat care
- Adventure walks
- Feeding and medication administration
- Playtime and enrichment
- Potty breaks
- Specialty pet care visits
- Weekend and holiday coverage
- Last-minute or unexpected coverage when available
- Overnight pet sitting
Hours will vary based on client demand, employee time off, holidays, and your availability.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who values flexibility and wants the opportunity to pick up additional hours when they are available.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
- Reliable, responsible, and punctual
- Comfortable working independently
- Comfortable caring for dogs and cats of different sizes, ages, and personalities
- Able to follow detailed pet-care instructions
- Comfortable administering basic medications when instructed
- Professional and friendly with clients
- Detail-oriented and able to provide thorough service reports
- Comfortable using a smartphone for scheduling, GPS tracking, and communication
- Able to communicate promptly with our team
- Willing to follow company policies and procedures
- Able to maintain client confidentiality and respect clients’ homes
- Comfortable driving to multiple client locations throughout the day
Professional pet-care experience is strongly preferred. Veterinary, kennel, grooming, dog training, animal shelter, or other professional animal-care experience is a plus.
Availability
Because this is a relief position, flexibility and availability are extremely important.
We are especially interested in applicants who can provide coverage:
- During weekdays
- On weekends
- During employee vacations and requested time off
- During holidays
- During busy periods
- With occasional short-notice availability
You do not need to be available every day. We are looking for someone whose availability can complement our existing team.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel between client homes throughout the service area
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Comfortable working in clients’ homes
- Must have a smartphone
- Must be dependable and able to arrive within scheduled service windows
- Must be able to handle dogs of varying sizes and energy levels
- Must be comfortable caring for pets with a variety of medical, behavioral, and special-care needs
- Must be comfortable taking care of cats
- ust be comfortable administering medications, including pills, powders, eye/ear drops, and other oral or topical medications
- Experience administering insulin injections is strongly preferred; training may be provided for qualified candidates
- Must be willing to complete our onboarding and training process
- Must sign required company agreements, including our non-solicitation /non-compete agreement

A Typical Day:
Your schedule may include several visits throughout the day. For example:
9:30 AM: Dog walk
11:00 AM: Cat care visit
1:00 PM: Dog walk
3:00 PM: Pet sitting visit
5:30 PM: Feeding/medication visit
Pay: $16.50 - $18.00 per hour
